Flourishing apple trade in Shimla town boosts business

Shimla, Oct 14 (ANI): Apple business is booming in northern hill town and famed tourist destination Shimla, registering an annual growth from 35 billion to 45 billion rupees, proving a boon for the economy. Apple farming, which is the biggest business of the state, is not only giving good business to its farmers and traders, but the state government is also launching different schemes and initiatives to help grow the trade. Different varieties of the fruit are being sold out in large quantities at the local markets in Narkanda, Shimla, Dhali, Solan and Parwanoo during the onset of winter. On an average, the farmers get 1,000 rupees for a box containing 20-25 kg of apple. But this year, farmers are getting between 1,000 to 2,200 rupees for the same box. Vice-chairman, Himachal Pradesh, Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), Mohinder Satan, said that with each year passing, more are more farmers and traders are joining this business considering its profit. Ranchi, Oct 13 (ANI): After leaving at least five people dead and a trail of destruction in the port city of Visakhapatnam and adjoining districts of Odisha, rains lashed Jharkhand in the wake of Cyclone Hudhud, after it made landfall earlier on Sunday. Cyclone Hudhud blasted eastern seaboard with gusts of up to 195 km per hour (over 120 mph), uprooting trees, damaging buildings and killing at least five people despite a major evacuation effort. Visakhapatnam was hammered as the cyclone made landfall, unleashing the huge destructive force it had sucked up from the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal. Most people heeded warnings to take refuge, but five were killed by falling trees and masonry, and thousands of homes were damaged, emergency officials said. Strong winds and heavy rains lashed Jharkhand on Sunday night because of which electric poles and trees were destroyed in the interior of the state. New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): IMD DG LS Rathore on Sunday while addressing a press conference said that the relief and rescue operations are critical in Vishakhapatnam and the department is hoping that the aircrafts can be deployed by the 13th morning if the speed of winds decreases.
