'Dabbawalas' wield broom on Mumbai streets as part of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'

Mumbai, Dec 26 (ANI): World renowned 'dabbawalas' (lunch box carriers) of Mumbai on Friday wielded brooms to sweep streets after Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated them to join 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. The 'dabbawalas' are city's lifeline as the team of around 5000 people supply food to around 200,000 office goers every day. They carry hot food in lunch boxes from the houses of Mumbai residents in the morning and deliver them at their workplace. A group of lunch box carriers assembled at Lower Parel area and swept the streets and footpaths with a promise to involve their customers also in this campaign. The dabbawalas, world-famous for their efficiency, co-ordination and hygiene, said they would do their best to ensure cleanliness around. Dec 26, 2014

Varanasi, Dec 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi as part of nation-wide Good Governance Day celebrations being held by his government. Modi extended his greetings to people of Kashi and nominated few more people for cleanliness drive. JP Nadda inspects Safdarjung Hospital; participates in cleanliness drive

New Delhi, Dec 25 (ANI): Health Minister JP Nadda on Thursday along with BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi paid a surprise visit at Safdarjung Hospital and inspected the cleanliness maintained by the hospital staff. Nadda even wielded the broom in the outer premises of the hospitals. He said that in order to expedite PM Modi's Swachhata Abhiyan, he will inspect hospitals for cleanliness and also clean them himself. Modi represents the 3,000-year-old riverside city of Varanasi and has taken personal responsibility for restoring Maa Ganga, or "Mother Ganges". Kher, best known for his soulful melodies and songs that have graced many a Bollywood chartbuster in the recent years, wielded a broom as part of cleanliness drive and urged others to join the mission. Mobile science laboratory proves to be a boon for rural students in Assam

Assam, Dec 15 (ANI): Dahotia Hr. Secondary School in Jorhat is one of the good educational institutes of Assam. However, it lacks modern and state-of-the art science laboratory. Many a times, the students have to sacrifice with the unavailability of practical facilities. Now, the science students have a reason to cheer as they have got a 'laboratory on wheels', a mobile lab inaugurated by state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on August 15. Mobile lab on wheels is an initiative of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Assam in collaboration with UNICEF and the Assam State Technology and Environment Society. As on now, two mobile vans in Jorhat and Kamrup will cover the schools in rural areas of Upper Assam. BJP pulls up Lalu for calling PM Modi 'NRI'
