At least 55 killed and several injured in suicide blast on Pakistan side of Wagah border

Lahore, Nov 03 (ANI): At least 55 people were killed and more than 150 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near the Indo- Pak border. The attack occurred shortly after a daily ceremony when troops from both sides simultaneously lower the two nations' flags. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a response to the Pakistani army's actions against their positions in tribal areas straddling Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. State police Chief Mushtaq Sukhera said that the explosion hit near the checkpoint at the Wagah border crossing as hundreds of people were returning from the military ceremony on the outskirts of Lahore. The daily flag-hoisting ceremonies by the Pakistani and the Indian military on their respective sides of the border draw crowds of hundreds. Some of the victims were taken to the city's Mayo hospital. Rani Begum was among the unfortunate relatives at the hospital. Nov 3, 2014
