Activists condemn rape of Sikkim girl in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): Condemning the alleged rape of a 25-year-old girl from Sikkim by a doctor in the national capital as 'extremely disturbing', activist Binalakshmi Nepram on Friday warned of a strong protest if an attempt is made to hush up the matter. She also condemned the surge in rape cases across the country. Meanwhile, another women activist, Jagmati Sangwan also expressed her outrage stating that girls from northeast are particularly vulnerable and are therefore targeted. The girl from Sikkim was allegedly raped by a doctor in the Hauz Khas area of the city. The police have initiated an inquiry in this matter following a complaint by the victim. Feb 27, 2015

Siliguri/ Kanpur, Feb 25 (ANI): Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, prohibiting mass gatherings without prior permission, has been imposed in Ahmedabad in order to prevent swine flu. However, gathering for marriages and death processions have been exempted. According to reports, if the public events cannot be called off or postponed, organisers will have to take prior permission to ensure that proper care is taken to stop the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, doctors in West Bengal say that hospitals in northern part of the state were fully equipped to provide medical facilities to swine flu afflicted patients. Doctor Rudra Nath Bhattacharya said that North Bengal Medical College had set up an isolation word, appointed maximum number of staff and kept close watch on the pig farms. Swine flu claims two lives in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 18 (ANI): The deadly H1N1 swine flu virus claimed two lives in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday (February 18). India has seen a sharp rise in the number of swine flu deaths and reported cases this year, prompting officials to investigate the cause and step up efforts to combat the virus. The victims, who succumbed to the disease at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar city, included a man and a woman. A special isolated ward has been created at SKIMS for treating the patients of swine flu. Director of SKIMS, Doctor Showkat Ali Zargar, said so far 71 cases have been diagnosed in the hospital. It happens : Cattle fair in Tamil Nadu draws large number of enthusiastic farmers

Coimbatore, Feb 13 (ANI): A cattle fair held to spread awareness among people about the preservation of livestock drew enthusiastic response from villagers in Tamil Nadu. The fair, held at Samathur on the outskirts of Pollachi town in Coimbatore district, also drew animal lovers from abroad. Villagers dressed in traditional attire brought hundreds of cows and bulls of different breeds at the fair ground. A member of Vanavarayar Foundation, which organised the event, Shankar Vanavarayar said the idea was to create awareness about the importance of livestock in agriculture. A cattle specialist from New Zealand, Doctor John Henry Niezen said the fair offered opportunities to farmers to share their ideas and thoughts with each other about the health of animals. He said cattle shows are very common in western countries. Local bulls of Kangeyam region stole the limelight. The bulls are known all over the world for their superior strength and easy adaptability in any condition. The fair is the first of its kind being held in the region. Organisers were overwhelmed with the response. About 700 cattle of nine native breeds were on display. The animals were later judged on fitness.
