Kashmir shifts capital for winter

Srinagar, Nov 01 (ANI): The government officials of Jammu and Kashmir geared up on Saturday (November 01) to shift state capital from Srinagar to Jammu city for winter season. The bi-annual practice of shifting the 'Darbar' (Secretariat) between the two capital cities of the state dates back to the 19th century. It is estimated the whole exercise of relocating offices costs the government crores of rupees every year. The civil secretariat will open in Jammu on November 05. Srinagar experiences severe winter, covered with snow and a pleasant weather in summers, while Jammu city records high temperatures during summer, but is relatively warm in winters. Nov 1, 2014

Cyclone Nilofar has weakened, says MeT department

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): India's Meteorological Department, on Friday said that cyclone Nilofar, has weakened and has turned into a depression and its impact will only be moderate rainfall. Nilofar is expected to make a landfall on Gujarat coast on Saturday. Head of cyclone warning division, India's meteorological department Mrityunjay Mahapatra, said the strong winds along the coast were blowing and the impact of the weakened Nilofar will only be rainfall for next 24 hours. As a precautionary measure, people from around 40 villages have already been evacuated and nine teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to tackle any untoward incident. Pakistan's coastal belt prepares for cyclone Nilofar

Karachi, Oct 30 (ANI): Administration in Pakistan's southern port city Karachi on Thursday continued to make necessary arrangements to cope with cyclone Nilofar in the Arabian sea, which is expected to bring widespread rains accompanied by strong gusty winds late on Thursday and Friday. While several meteorologists are certain that the cyclone will not hit Pakistan directly, they believe that some parts of Balochistan and lower Sindh will be in the periphery of the tropical storm. The coastal belt of Sindh has been closed till November 02 and any gatherings on beaches have been barred as a precautionary measure on the coastal belt of Karachi, Thatta, Sajawal and Badin. Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority has told officials to prepare to evacuate villages along the coast and close beachside restaurants. But many villagers refuse to leave their homes.
