47 day fish trawling ban commences in Kerala coast

Kochi, June 15 (ANI): Kerala fisherman will have to temporarily put their fishing nets to rest, as the annual 47 days ban on fishing using motorised trawlers in Kerala began at midnight on Saturday. Most of the heavy motorised deep sea fish trawlers have come back and will now be anchored at their respective harbours during the 47-day long ban period that will be on till July 31. The annual ban is likely to drive up fish prices. Officials from fisheries department said the ban might be increased to 60 days if required. Jun 15, 2014
