SAARC energy ministers meet in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): The fifth meeting of the energy ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was held in New Delhi on Friday, with an aim to strengthen energy cooperation among the member countries. Energy ministers and senior officials from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were part of the meeting. India's Power and Coal Minister, Piyush Goyal, said that the similarities between the socio-economic conditions would help the SAARC nations to stay together and become a regional economic power house. The agenda of the meeting included review of status of implementation of decisions of the Fourth Meeting of SAARC Energy Ministers held in Dhaka on 15 September 2011. Oct 17, 2014

Black Money case: Congress targets Modi govt for its reluctance to disclose names

New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): The Congress on Friday targeted the Narendra Modi government for its double standards on Black money case. Citing bilateral double taxation avoidance treaties, the Centre today filed an application in the Supreme Court saying it cannot disclose the details of foreign accounts held abroad by Indians. The issue of black money has reverberated in public space for a very long time. The BJP when in the opposition repeatedly exchanged fire with the Congress for its inability to bring back black money stashed away in various tax havens, specially in Swiss banks. Andhra CM sure of rebuilding Visakhapatnam after Hudhud havoc

Visakhapatnam, Oct 17 (ANI): The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu assured to make the port city of Visakhapatnam the best city again, after it was devastated by cyclone Hudhud which hit on October 12. Naidu earlier visited the cyclone-hit areas to take the stock of the situation. He said on Friday (October 17) that the state government is doing their part. They are concentration in relief and rehabilitation work. The chief minister also thanked the Central government for their cooperation. Helsinki, Oct 16 (ANI): Indian President Pranab Mukherjee met his Finland counterpart Sauli Niinisto at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki amid a grand ceremonial reception and signed 19 pacts to step up cooperation in energy, fishing and education, besides exploring tie-ups in science and technology. This is the first visit by an Indian president in 26 years to the key Nordic nation. Canada foreign minister meets Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday and met his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj for a discussion on Canada-India relations to strengthen bilateral economic ties between the two countries. Baird also commemorated the International Day of the Girl Child at a school in the national capital. India and Canada were expected to discuss on the bilateral issues at the meeting, including matters related to security, defence, counter-terrorism, space and nuclear cooperation. Baird, who is on a five-day visit to India, is accompanied by Canadian International Trade Minister Ed Fast and National Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay among others. Naidu said that the authorities are not able to assess wind speed as they have lost communications and that the situation is serious in 3-4 districts of the state.
