Bangladesh PM adviser assures positive steps against cross-border militancy

New Delhi, Nov 05 (ANI): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser on Wednesday (November 05) said that both India and Bangladesh have been working to fight against terrorism which is prevalent at the porous Indo-Bangladesh border. Sheikh Hasina's adviser Gauhar Rizvi said that given the fact that Bangladesh and India share 2400 miles of common boundary and much of these boundaries are very porous. Therefore, it is very common for criminals, terrorists, smugglers cross-border flee from one country to another and take advantage to destabilise the establishment. He further said that Bangladesh has always been satisfied with the intelligence that has been shared by India with us and we consider them to be very helpful to us. Rizvi was commenting on the recent blast that took place in Burdwan district on India's eastern West Bengal. The explosions in a house on October 02 had left two suspected militants dead, while the city court had sent three accused to police custody. Later, two women were also arrested in connection with the blast on October 05. Indian team is expected to visit Dhaka this week for further investigation. Nov 5, 2014

BSF guns down smugglers, recovers 22 kilograms of heroin in Punjab

Amritsar, Nov 03 (ANI): India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) troopers gunned down smugglers and recovered 22 kilograms of heroin worth 1.1 billion rupees along the Indo-Pak border in Punjab. Giving details of the incident, BSF Inspector General Ashok Kumar said that one smuggler was shot dead while two of his accomplices were injured and 22 kg of heroin was seized from them at Dera Baba Nanak sector in Gurdaspur district. He added that the operation was launched on the basis of intelligence inputs, following which the patrolling party of 38 Battalion in Gurdaspur observed some suspicious movement in the area of Bohar Wadala border outpost. The patrolling party opened fire in retaliation as the smugglers, who were trying to cross over to the Pakistan side, challenged them. Lahore, Nov 03 (ANI): At least 55 people were killed and more than 150 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near the Indo- Pak border. The attack occurred shortly after a daily ceremony when troops from both sides simultaneously lower the two nations' flags. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a response to the Pakistani army's actions against their positions in tribal areas straddling Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. State police Chief Mushtaq Sukhera said that the explosion hit near the checkpoint at the Wagah border crossing as hundreds of people were returning from the military ceremony on the outskirts of Lahore. The daily flag-hoisting ceremonies by the Pakistani and the Indian military on their respective sides of the border draw crowds of hundreds.
