Jammu, Nov 10 (ANI): With growing chill in the air, the secretariat of Jammu and Kashmir moved to its winter capital, Jammu, on Monday (November10) with the ceremonial guard of honour for the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, to mark the occasion. The bi-annual practice of shifting the 'Darbar' (Secretariat) between the two capital cities of the state dates back to the 19th century. The government operates from Srinagar during summers and from Jammu in winters. It is estimated that the whole exercise of relocating offices costs the government crores of rupees every year. Srinagar, experiences severe snow covered winters and a pleasant weather in summers, while Jammu city records high temperatures during summer, but is relatively warm in winters. Nov 10, 2014

Repeated warning of rough weather irks unaided fishermen of Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Nov 10 (ANI): Fishermen in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh remain a worried lot concerning their livelihood as repeated warnings of rough weather by the meteorological department has rendered them unable to venture into the sea for over a month now. Sources from the meteorological department warn that a fresh low pressure is likely to form near the Andaman Sea between November 9 and 11 which may intensify into a cyclonic storm or severe cyclonic storm. The fishermen complain of not having received any kind of help by the state government. Earlier, cyclone Hudhud that smashed the coastline of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and killed at least 25 people, left the panicked survivors struggling for basic necessities like food and water. According to the meteorological department, fishermen should stay away from the sea as strong winds are expected along the coast of Andhra Pradesh. Nov 10, 2014
