Allahabad, Sep 22 (ANI): The supporters of Varun Gandhi on Monday pelted stones at the house of BJP MP Shyama Charan Gupta, who had criticised Women & Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi for pitching in for her son as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister. Gupta's statement has infuriated Varun's supporters who burnt his effigy and also pelted stones at his residence. The protesters also shouted slogans and tore the posters outside his residence in Allahabad. They also demanded an apology from Gupta for his statement. The Allahabad MP said, "It is a statement made in haste. She should not have said this. Like her others will also pitch in for their children." Sep 22, 2014

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Ahmedabad, receives Guard of Honour

Ahmedabad, Sep 17 (ANI): Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday arrived in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat for a three-day visit to India to bolster bilateral ties. Jinping was also accompanied by his wife and was received warmly by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and a high level Indian delegation. The President also received Guard of Honour at the airport itself. Jinping will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. Ahmedabad /New Delhi, Sept 17 (ANI): Security agencies cast a tight security net around Ahmedabad where on Wednesday Chinese President Xi Jinping will begin his three-day India visit aimed at allaying suspicions and boosting ties.The Gujarat government is leaving no stone unturned for grand welcome for Xi who arrives on the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also marking his 64th birthday.Security personnel were deployed across the city and security was especially tight on the roads leading up to the airport in Ahmedabad. Stone pelting not anti-national, act of anger against government: Bhim Singh
