Oommen Chandy ready to compensate on revenue loss to Kerala due to liquor ban

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 23 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said ban on liquor policy in the state can prove to be a loss to the government but he is willing to overcome it. The Congress-led government in Kerala announced on Thursday that it would make Kerala alcohol-free in the next 10 years. The proposal was taken at a two-hour meeting at the chief minister’s residence. Chandy said the new policy will be applicable for the five-star hotels serving liquor from the next fiscal. Chandy added the policy will be submitted to the Kerala High Court on August 26. Chandy said the ban could cause three-fold problems to the state. The state Finance Minister KM Mani said the loss of revenue to the state due to the ban calculated for the upcoming fiscal is 1,811 crore rupees. Aug 23, 2014
