Avid readers throng to National Book Fair in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 27 (ANI): The National book fair held in the 'Kashmir Haat' ground in Srinagar city of Kashmir which attracted thousands of book lovers, promises to make future generations of the valley aware of the history, culture and heritage of the country. The biggest national book fair has been organised by the National Book Trust (NBT) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy for Art, Culture and Languages, Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Associations in India, National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) and District Administration Srinagar. Organiser of the Book Fair, Vijender Kumar, said that the fair has received a great response. The fair-cum-exhibition began on August 23 and will conclude at the end of this month. Aug 28, 2014

Srinagar, Aug 24 (ANI): In a bid to revive theatre and film culture in the valley, a four-day International Film Festival of Kashmir (IFFK) 2014 was organised in Jammu and Kashmir in SKICC auditorium. The film festival, which began on Friday in Srinagar city, is being organised by Experimental Moving Images and Theatre Association (XMITA) in collaboration with the state’s tourism department. This is the fourth edition of IFFK, which is marking association’s 10th anniversary with longest-ever line up of movies from across the globe. Srinagar, Aug 22 (ANI): Shopkeepers who were displaced due to the construction of a flyover in the area look forward to better days as the Kashmir government rehabilitates them with a new shopping complex in Srinagar city, which promises to be one of the biggest shopping complexes of the valley. The complex was inaugurated by chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah. Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Company (JKPCC) constructed the shopping complex to rehabilitate the shopkeepers who were displaced due to the construction of Jehangir Chowk- Rambagh expressway corridor. Decorated with the traditional Dajji Diwari (wooden work) look on the outer façade, the two- storey shopping complex at Jehangir Chowk which is estimated to cost Rs 50 crores(500 million), has a floor area of 1,42,000 square feet.
