BSE closes points 34.09 up on Dec 10

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 34.09 points up to stand at 27,831.10. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 14.95 points up to stand at 8,355.65. SKS MICROFINANCE LTD and GITANJALI were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 10.76% and 8.83% along with PIPAVAVDOC and AJANTA PHARMA LTD with an increase of 8.10% and 6.40% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include HAVELLS and RASOYPR with a decrease 6.73% and 4.92% along with ABAN and VAKRANGEE with a decrease of 4.39% and 3.46% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 68.56 points at 18,914.17 while the banking sector is up 211.09 points at 21,158.24 and the reality sector is up 4.29 points at 1,664.28. The 'Material Girl' hitmaker posed seductively in photos taken by Mert Alasand Marcus Piggott, a leading online portal reported. On asking her of getting into drugs and their role in singer's life, the Queen of Pop asserted that she had tried every bit but as soon as she realized the drugs were taking over, she flushed it out. Social activists urge central govt to remove incentives for sterilization process

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): A group of non-government organisations (NGO) urged central government to remove incentives for sterilization process after more than a dozen women died at a camp in Chhattisgarh last month. They visited government-run family planning camp in Bilaspur, where 83 women were sterilized, and made their recommendations to health minister JP Nadda. Chief of NGO, Population Foundation of India, Poonam Muttreja asked government not to set up camps but to provide the services on regular basis to women. Muttreja also asked the government to provide more choices to women as it was done in the neighbouring countries. An investigation is now underway into why the drugs were bought locally when there was enough stock of the medicine with the state's central procurement agency. Dec 2, 2014

Activists distribute condoms to sex workers in Kolkata on World AIDS Day

Kolkata, Dec 01 (ANI): Sex workers in Sonagachi, one of Asia's largest red light districts located in Kolkata, pledged not to have sex without condoms to mark the World AIDS Day on Monday. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is spread via blood, semen and breast milk. There is no cure for the infection, but AIDS can be kept at bay for many years with antiretroviral drugs. In the global battle against HIV/AIDS, sex workers like those in Sonagachi are a crucial link in a chain of infection. A 19-year-old sex worker who is in this profession because of her truant husband, said that cleanliness is very important to fight HIV/AIDS. The Project Director of HIV Intervention Programme in Sonagachi, Puja Roy, said that free condom service was initiated aiming to make Sonagachi a 'zero AIDS' region. Dec 1, 2014

India marks World AIDS Day with rallies and sand art

Ahmedabad/ Allahabad/ Shimla, Dec 01 (ANI): People across India took out rallies and made sand sculptures to spread awareness to mark 26th World AIDS Day on Monday. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is spread via blood, semen and breast milk. There is no cure for the infection, but AIDS can be kept at bay for many years with cocktails of antiretroviral drugs. Scores of people in Ahmedabad city took to streets to spread awareness about the crippling disease. Project Director of the AIDS Control Society, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Umesh said that though there has been decline in new cases of HIV, patients still faced a lot of stigma due to less information.
