Election commission bans Ramdevs camp over honeymoon remark

Himachal Pradesh / Punjab/ New Delhi, April 29 (ANI): Election Commission of India on Tuesday (April 29) banned another camp of yoga guru, Ramdev in Himachal Pradesh, over his ‘honeymoon remark’. Ramdev, in Lucknow had said that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visits Dalit households for picnics and honeymoon, which deeply offended the concerned community and triggered a storm. Chief electoral officer of Himachal Pradesh, Narinder Chauhan, said holding yoga camps with an intention to support any political party is prohibited. Following derogatory remarks of Ramdev, the Election Commission earlier banned him from conducting meetings and programmes in Lucknow. Meanwhile, Congress leader Meem Afzal called for Ramdev’s arrest as he violated Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act. Senior lawyer, Majid Memon, said Ramdev should not make statements, as he is not affiliated to any party.

Fire in Supreme Court premises

New Delhi, April 27 (ANI): Fire engulfed Supreme Court premises in Delhi on Sunday with no casualties reported. Fire engines were called upon and the reason for the same is not ascertained yet. A lawyer who was witness to the incident said that there is total unpreparedness in the premises and that the cause of the fire is not known yet. Loss of the official files and documents are yet to be calculated.

Inder Kumar Saraf accused of raping model, produced before court

Mumbai, April 26 (ANI): Bollywood actor Inder Kumar Saraf, who was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 23-year-old model at his house twice, was produced before a Bandra court for the case. Saraf is accused of raping the girl besides assaulting and torturing her after befriending her on the pretext of getting roles in the movies. Lawyer in the case said that the charges are serious and that investigation is necessary. Meanwhile, Inder's wife Pallavi said that the girl is trying to frame Saraf for vested interests.

Giriraj Singh granted anticipatory bail in hate speech case

Patna, April 25 (ANI): BJP leader Giriraj Singh was granted anticipatory bail on Friday by a Patna court for his alleged hate speech during election campaign. Singh had ealrier said during an election meeting in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, that those who opposed Narendra Modi should go to Pakistan. The lawyer said that the Election Commissioner had filed three points that the BJP leader has violated, but the statements has no reference to any of it- caste, religion and class.

SC commutes Bhullar's death sentence to life imprisonment

New Delhi, March 31 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday commuted the death sentence of Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, who was convicted for a 1993 blast in Delhi, to life imprisonment. The central government has earlier said that it has no objection on the same. The lawyer in the case said that the reason for the development is the delay in the case and also mental health of Bhullar. In January, the court had stopped Bhullar's execution and had sought a medical report on his mental health.

NHRC directs Delhi Police to take action against Somnath Bharti

New Delhi, March 31 (ANI): In what can invite more trouble for Arvind Kejriwal and AAP, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday directed the Delhi Police to take action against former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti for leading a midnight raid in New Delhi's Khirki Extension. Activist-lawyer Shehzad Poonawala, who had petitioned against AAP leader Bharti in connection with the case, welcomed the move and said that it is now to witness if Kejriwal will apologize and will sack Bharti from the party or not.
