New Delhi, Sept 06 (ANI): Political leaders on Saturday reacted over, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's letter to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking land for Kashmiri Pandits. Rajnath, in his letter to Omar suggested that the land may be identified near the respective native places the Kashmiri pandits migranted from. Rajnath Singh had also advised that such areas must be selected taking into consideration, the availability of adequate security in close proximity of the place. At present there are about 62,000 registered Kashmiri Pandit families in the country who migrated from the Kashmir Valley to either Jammu, Delhi or to other parts of the country due to militancy in the state in early 1990s. Rajouri, Sep 06 (ANI): Rescuers recovered bodies of at least 50 people from an ill fated bus ferrying members of wedding party that was washed away by flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir. The accident happened in the Laam area of Naushera sector along the Line of Control on Thursday. According to official around 50 people were on-board the bus at the time of accident. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the northern region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the Himalayan region after two days of heavy rain that hit Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. The police and army have begun rescue operations as floods, triggered by heavy rains, washed away bridges and houses and marooned people. Abdullah said the major challenge was to rehabilitate flood hit victims. Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting in New Delhi to review the flood situation and has dispatched members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist the state government. Sixty-five people were killed after heavy rains caused flash floods in Kashmir, including a wedding party on a bus that was swept away, officials said on Thursday (September 04). Authorities declared a disaster alert in the region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Heavy rain is expected for the next 48 hours. The state's main river, the Jhelum, and its tributaries are flowing several feet above the danger mark. Residents in Srinagar city said villages were inundated and marooned people were yet to get any government aid. According to local people, there have hardly been any rescue operations yet. Incessant rains for the past about 48 hours have resulted in mud slides, flash floods and rising of water in all rivers. The Indian Army has immediately moved in deploying rescue operations in floods affected regions of Naoshera, Rajouri, Thanamandi and Poonch district of the state. The Army has been able to rescue almost 108 civilians as search and rescue operations are in full swing. Haj pilgrims undergo vaccination drive in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 04 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government organized a vaccination program along with Haj committee for aspiring pilgrims. The number of Haj pilgrims has increased in last few years and for safety of every pilgrim going to Saudi, the Saudi Kingdom had announced that without vaccination no pilgrim will be allowed to perform Haj. Executive Officer of Jammu and Kashmir Haj committee, Fayaz Ahmed Lone, said that every Haj pilgrim was expected to have a health and training card, which they have to show when they land in Saudi Arabia. He said that normally the vaccination costs a lot but during this drive it was being provided free of cost by the health department. Jammu and Kashmir, Sep 04 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government has sounded flood alert in the state after three days of incessant rain. Many villages have been inundated and River Jhelum has been flowing four feet above danger mark in Srinagar. The situation is particularly grim in south Kashmir, the police and local administration have rescued dozens of people from the Kulgam district. The villagers were evacuated after the flood water entered their houses and submerged. Meanwhile, a worker trapped in flood water in Kashmir's Ganderbal district was rescued by the team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Poonch, Rajouri and Reasi - on the Jammu side - and Kulgam and Shopian - both in the valley - have been receiving heavy rain which has affected normal life in these areas. Authorities have deployed over a dozen of Disaster Management and rescue teams in all the districts of Jammu region and water level is being continuously monitored by the flood control rooms.
