Indian company builds Afghanistan parliament building to boost bilateral ties

Kabul, June 27 (ANI): A team of Indian engineers and supervisors are working diligently to build Afghanistan parliament building in Kabul city in a bid to boost bilateral ties between the two countries. The team comprising 50 workers from different states of India said they were facing no problems and added that Afghanistan has always been friendly towards Indians.The team members said people in Afghanistan were treating them well and they felt secure in the nation. The parliament building will be the most prominent symbol of Indian efforts to help Afghanistan. Its foundation stone was laid by the last king of Afghanistan, Mohammed Zahir Shah, in presence of President Hamid Karzai and then Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2005. The construction began in 2009 and efforts are underway to complete project by this year end. Jun 27, 2014

Divide within DU Academic council surfaces as some demand removal of FYUP while others favour it

New Delhi, June 25 (ANI): Divide within the Delhi University Academic Council surfaced as some demanded removal of FYUP while others justify the same on various grounds. Professor Vijay Chaudhary said that the council has decided certain guidelines for the removal of FYUP for the honours course and carry on the three years foundation courses and that the UGC should let the B. Tech courses remain functional for four years as that would only clear the interest of the students. President receives copy of 'Encyclopedia of Hinduism'

New Delhi, June 23 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday received a copy of the Encyclopedia of Hinduism at a function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Auditorium. The President complimented Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji of the Parmarth Niketan Rishikesh, the founder-chairman of India Heritage Research Foundation (IHRF) for undertaking the effort to bring out the encyclopedia. Present at the event were also LK Advani, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Uma Bharti. Greenpeace India denies receiving government notice on foreign funding

New Delhi/ Tamil Nadu, June 20 (ANI): Executive director Greenpeace-India, Samit Aich denied media reports that the central government had served notice to it on its foreign funding. India has asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to tighten controls on moving funds from abroad into Greenpeace's accounts. The government has asked the RBI to obtain its permission before releasing funding from Netherlands-based Greenpeace International and the US-based Climate Works Foundation, both contributors to Greenpeace India.
