Group of 15 Indians return from strife-torn Iraq

New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): A group of 15 Indian workers returned from strife-torn Iraq at New Delhi airport on Tuesday as fighters from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) advanced to capital Baghdad. About 10,000 Indian nationals work in Iraq, mostly in areas unaffected by the fighting between the ISIL and the national army. About 100 Indian workers are trapped in areas overrun by ISIL. Indian worker, Mohammad Isbal Ansari, said he did not receive any help either from Indian government nor the company he was working for. Forty Indian construction workers have been kidnapped in Iraq's second largest city of Mosul, which fell to Sunni insurgents last week. No ransom demand has been received. Another Indian, Lal Dhar, said problems were confined to only conflict zone and he would return back to Iraq after the crisis is resolved. Jun 24, 2014

Srinagar, June 23 (ANI): Police arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief, Mohammad Yasin Malik in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday following a protest against the central government. Malik, had called for a shutdown in the valley to observe June 23 as 'Quit Kashmir Day'. Malik and some of his associates were arrested by police personnel as he was leading a protest march in Srinagar, while protesters shouted slogans for emancipation of Kashmir. Congress worker's house attacked by unidentified gunmen in JandK

Sopore, June 21 (ANI): Unidentified gunmen barged inside the house of Congress party activist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo in Baramulla district of Kashmir and opened heavy fire upon their family members. In the firing that started around 9:05 pm Friday night, two persons identified as Nazir Ahmad Naikoo, son of Khazir Mohammad and his cousin Shabir Ahmad, suffered critical injuries, and the duo were immediately shifted to Sub-district hospital, where Nazir succumbed to injuries. Doda, May 30 (ANI): Police busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge cache of explosives, arms and ammunition from a forest area in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior officer. Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Sharif Chouhan, said it was one of the biggest recoveries in the recent past in Doda district of the state. Acting on a tip-off, police launched combing in the forest area and busted the militant hideout in a natural cave.
