2014 LS Polls: Kashmiris gear up to exercise their franchise

Baramulla, April 23 (ANI): As India gears up for the sixth phase of polling, preparations for the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir are not far behind either. The people of the Kashmir valley are looking forward to exercising their franchise and are looking for an eligible candidate who addresses their issues and does not leave promises unfulfilled. LS Polls 2014: Assam, Tripura, Sikkim and Goa begin voting

Goa/ Assam/ Tripura, April 12 (ANI): Voting in four states, namely Assam, Goa, Sikkim and Tripura began on Saturday, with voters casting ballots that would decide the fate of over 1.2 billion people. Polling began at 7am in four states for seven consituencies, namely three seats in Assam, two in Goa and one each in Sikkim and Tripura. Around 50 lakh voters will vote for 74 candidates in the four states. Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was amongst the early voters, pinned hopes on his party. In Goa, 19 candidates are in the fray for the North and South Goa constituencies, which will witness a single phased poll. While Assam has nearly 30 million eligible voters, Goa has over 1 million. Sikkim has a 362,326 electorate, of which 175,549 are women. As many as 1.13 million electorate are eligible to vote as 12 candidates battle it out for the Tripura East constituency. Apr 12, 2014

LS polls: Voting commences in Mizoram for single seat

Mizoram, April 11 (ANI): Voting for a single Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram constituency began on Friday, for which additional eight companies of central para-military forces have been deployed. The Mizoram Lok Sabha seat is witnessing a three-cornered contest between the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and the United Democratic Front which is an alliance of eight opposition parties. An electorate of 7,02,189, of whom 3,55,954 are women are eligible to cast votes in 1,126 polling stations. In 385 polling stations, mainly in urban areas, the VVPAT system, under which a paper trail would show the voters their choice of candidates, has been installed. Apr 11, 2014

Lok Sabha polls commences in Tripura

Tripura, April 07 (ANI): Polling in one of the two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura commenced on Monday in the first stage of 2014 general elections. Around 1.2 million voters are eligible to vote in the Tripura West constituency, who will decide the fortunes of 13 candidates in the state. The Left has won from West Tripura 11 times since the first Lok Sabha election of 1952 and the Congress four times. CPI-M's Sankar Prasad Datta, Congress's Arunoday Saha, BJP state president Sudhindra Chandra Dasgupta, Trinamool Congress state chief Ratan Chakraborty and Aam Aadmi Party's Salil Saha are among the contenders.
