JandK, Oct 06 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir which is known for its picturesque beauty has also a rich cultural history and varied religious diversity. People of the state practice different religions and have own their set of customs and beliefs, yet they maintain brotherhood and enjoy religious celebrations together, which has been the age-old tradition since time immemorial. A similar example is seen at the shrine of Sufi saint Wali Dad in Bhathain village of Rajouri district, where devotes belonging to different religions gather and celebrate the Urs of the saint with much religious fervour. Every year, devotees in large numbers from Rajouri and other regions of Jammu and Kashmir valley gather at the foothills of Bhaithain village to pay homage to saint Wali Dad and seek his blessings. Kullu, Oct 06 (ANI): Devotees in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh thronged the streets to celebrate the centuries- old, week long Hindu festival, Kullu Dussehra with the royal family of the place. Hundreds of devotees led by the head of the former royal family participated in the week- long festival. During the festival, idols of the various Gods and Goddesses of the valley are brought out from respective temples in full public view. The festival, which symbolises the triumph of good over evil, is marked by prayers, processions and musical programmes. The week-long Kullu Dussehra festival ends with the sacrifice of a buffalo, a rooster, a lamb, a fish and a crab. Kashmir to witness gloomy Eid-al-Adha this year due to floods

Srinagar, Oct 05 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing subdued preparations for Eid this time due to the floods that devastated the state last month, leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless. There is no rush in the markets or festivity to be seen. The animal traders in Srinagar city say this year they have less to offer for animal sacrifices as most of their livestock perished in the floods. The blockage of transport system due to damage to infrastructure has also marred their business. India would be observing Eid-al-Adha, one of the two most important festivals in the Islamic calendar, on Monday. It marks the end of an annual Haj or pilgrimage to Mecca. Kashmir witnesses sanitation drives after flood waters recede

Srinagar, Oct 03 (ANI): The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, has been witnessing frequent cleanliness and sanitation drives ever since the flood waters receded in the city, where more than one million people reside. Emergency workers have been battling to prevent waterborne diseases like cholera from spreading as fetid water swilled around the Kashmir valley after the worst flooding in more than a century. Sanitation and cleanliness drives have swung into motion as the waters recede after a month of heavy flooding. The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has deployed tippers, robotic arms and excavators, among other machinery alongside hundreds of staff members who have been cleaning roads and garbage non-stop. The Municipal Commissioner, GN Qasba, said that a record 22,000 metric tonnes of garbage had been extracted from the city after the floods. Passengers relieved as train services resume in Kashmir

Baramulla/ Jammu, Sep 29 (ANI): Bringing much relief to the passengers, train services on the Baramulla-Banihal railway track resumed on Monday (September 29) after remaining closed for many days due to floods in Jammu and Kashmir. Train services were badly affected due to worst flooding in the valley. Besides claiming hundreds of lives and inundating thousands of homes, the flood destroyed military bases and hospitals in main city Srinagar after the Jhelum River overflowed its banks. Now with the train services resuming, passengers said it would also help boost their business, making it easier to commute. Meanwhile, the fourth bridge on the River Tawi was also reopened on Monday. After floods washed away the entire Jammu region, several bridges and connecting roads were closed.
