Shutdown in Andhra Pradesh continues over Telangana row

Guntur, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Feb 14 (ANI): Supporters of YSR Congress party and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) called for shutdown for second consecutive day in various districts of Andhra Pradesh on Friday against the creation of a new state. Members of YSR Congress party burnt tyres and staged a protest shouting slogans on the streets of Guntur district against the central government over its decision of creation of a separate state, Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh. Effect of shutdown was also seen in capital city Hyderabad, where businesses remained shut and also in the port city of Visakhapatnam where no public transport was visible and people were seen waiting at the bus stops. Andaman and Nicobar Lt Gov proposes slew of safety guidelines post boat tragedy

Port Blair, Feb 11 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh, proposed a slew of security guidelines to ensure safety of tourists in an aftermath of the boat capsize tragedy that claimed 21 lives off Port Blair. Singh accepted that boat safety rules were slightly shaky and needed a serious review after the recent capsize tragedy so that such incidents do not repeat. Singh also said the islands were faced with many other issues such as lack of educational institutions and better healthcare centres. Addressing the issue of higher education, Singh said the administration was planning to open medical colleges in the islands that would accommodate large number of native students. Feb 11, 2014
