Viswanathan Anand loses fifth game to Magnus Carlsen at World Chess Championship

Chennai, Nov 16 (ANI): Norway's Magnus Carlsen credited his opening moves for victory over India's Viswanathan Anand in a gruelling fifth game of the ongoing World Chess Championship in Chennai on Friday. The fifth game went on for over five and a half hours. Anand was playing with black pieces while Carlsen had white. Carlsen is ahead of Anand by 3-2. Just 22, Carlsen is considered the favourite after beating Anand in their last encounter in June. Anand, 43, however, is unperturbed. The two will play a total of 12 games till November 26 on a glass-encased, soundproof stage at a five-star hotel in Chennai. Their first four matches ended in draws. Nov 16, 2013

Indian, Chinese armies wrap up joint military drill

Chengdu, Nov 14 (ANI): Indian and Chinese soldiers wrapped up the anti-militancy exercise "Hand-in-Hand", which was held between two of the largest and well-equipped armed forces in the world. The training was organized in order to enhance bilateral ties during the session taking place in the south-western region of Chengdu in China. Lieutenant General, Anil Kumar Ahuja believes interaction between the two countries will definitely promote better understanding and better appreciation. A mixed group of at least 160 personnel each from the Indian and the Chinese sides participated in the drill. Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha declared the world chess championship open, setting the stage for a clash between chess titans. India's defending world champion, Vishwanathan Anand would take on the Norwegian Challenger Magnus Carlsen, from Saturday. This 12-match series was being organized by FIDE, the world chess federation. Jayalalitha said that an amount of 29 crore rupees has been allotted for the championship. The 43-year-old Indian chess ace, Anand, had dominated the sports and remained a world champion since 2007. 24-year-old Carlsen, on the other hand, was the youngest player to top the world rankings, when he was just 19.
