Kashmir, Aug 12 (ANI): The socio-cultural ethos of Kashmir or Kashmiriyat is steeped in a tradition of religious tolerance, social harmony and brotherhood. It was influenced by the advent of Sufism in Kashmir in early 14th century. Sufi saints were both popular and influential because they identified themselves with established traditions and never opposed the blending of different religious customs, practices and beliefs. As a result, they attracted many followers. Even today, several Sufi shrines dot the state, drawing people from different religions in large numbers. Srinagar/ New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): Government employees in Jammu and Kashmir took to streets on Friday, supporting the chief engineer, who resigned after a state minister used unparliamentary language against him. The chief engineer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, Muzaffar Lankar, submitted his resignation to state government after he accused Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, of using abusive language against him during a meeting at Civil Secretariat in Srinagar city. Supporters said Lankar was an honest man and hit out at minister. Protesters also demanded an apology from the government. Meanwhile, chief spokesperson of opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Naeem Akhtar, said the case was not new. Aug 8, 2014

Chief Engineer in Kashmir resigns after senior minister abuses him

Srinagar, Aug 8 (ANI): Senior officer of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffar Lankar, resigned from service and said he was allegedly abused by a senior minister of the state. Lankar submitted his resignation to the state government after he accused Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, of using abusive language against him during a meeting at Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, which was presided over by PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma to take stock of the works undertaken by the department in one of the assembly constituencies. Lankar said Choudhary used un-parliamentary language against him. Moreover, Lankar added there was no discussion on rupees 50 million needed to implement on schemes and instead, from the beginning of the meeting, he called engineers as thieves and liars. Aug 8, 2014
