Walnut prices shoot up after Kashmir floods

Srinagar, Nov 16 (ANI): The prices of walnuts in Jammu and Kashmir are increasing despite average production due to recent floods in the valley. The floods that left behind a trail of devastation in September this year killed hundreds and left thousands homeless. The rains affected the production as they filled the walnut fruit with water but it led to shortage of the dry fruit and now those involved in the business are expecting a good turnover. Even the walnut growers are anticipating rich profits after the prices have touched a new height in the markets. The walnuts from Kashmir are always in demand across the country and abroad because of its quality. Districts Anantnag and Ganderbal are very famous for the nut production. Nov 16, 2014

Parapet walls around Dal Lake in Kashmir to be restored

Srinagar, Nov 12 (ANI): Authorities beefed up restoration work of the parapet walls surrounding the scenic Dal Lake that were damaged after the worst flood in decades devastated Jammu and Kashmir. An engineer working on restoration, Nayeem Ahmad, said the damaged walls need to be repaired soon as the tourists feel unsafe to walk besides the lake. The tourism industry has again picked up after the disaster as tourists from across the world have started visiting the valley. The damaged parapet walls of the Dal Lake are making it difficult for tourists to enjoy the beauty as the walls made for sitting purpose can break anytime. The Dal Lake, often referred to as 'Srinagar jewel', is visited by millions of tourists every year and brings in huge profits for the boats rowers, famed houseboats and hotels around the lake. Power project in Kashmir to resolve problem of electricity supply

Srinagar, Nov 08 (ANI): A micro power project is under construction in Jammu and Kashmir to resolve the problems of electricity supply and generate employment for the locals. A private company is investing into power project in Baramulla district by mobilising water resources of the Kashmir valley, which after completion would generate 8 MW of electricity supply to the adjoining villages. The residents welcomed the project which would resolve problems of power outages. Power to be restored in Kashmir after days of restoration work

Poonch, Nov 08 (ANI): The power department of Jammu and Kashmir has started working on restoration work of power supply after the valley was destroyed in the recent floods. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley in September. Meanwhile, an executive engineer of Electricity Division in Poonch district, Mohammad Maqbool Nayak, said that one of the transformers in the area was damaged, which led to power crisis in the area. He further said they had borrowed power from Rajouri district and are working on installing another transformer to meet the requirements. He also added that the power supply in Poonch will be restored to 95 percent in another 10 to 15 days. Nov 8, 2014

People are purchasing birds so that they can spend some time with the pet to relieve their stress, caused due to office, studies and circumstances in Kashmir. A customer, Mushtaq Ahmad, said keeping bird as a pet is the best hobby to avoid all type of anxieties. Police detain youth for wearing t-shirt with ISIS logo

Dhanbad, Nov 06 (ANI): Police in Jharkhand detained a youth after his photos wearing a t-shirt with ISIS written on it emerged in a local daily. The boy was wearing a t-shirt that read 'ISIS Pakistan' during Ashoura procession on Tuesday (November 04) in Dhanbad city. As per media reports, the police have also detained the man who printed the t-shirt and relative who gave it to him. The boy claimed that he was preparing for a skit displaying resistance against the Islamic State and Pakistan. Officer in-charge of Dhanbad's Jharia police station, Vishnu Rajak, said they were investigating terror links in this matter. Srinagar, Nov 4 (ANI): Shi'ite Muslims protested against the state government in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (November 04) for imposing curfew on Ashoura, which commemorates the slaying of Prophet Muhammad's grandson Hussein in Karbala in 680 AD. Several mourners came out at historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar city and protested against the curfew by beating chests and shouting slogans. They were later detained by the police.
