Salman Khan unveils eighth edition of 'Big Boss'

Mumbai, Sept 13 (ANI): Bollywood actor, Salman Khan, on Thursday unveiled eighth edition of reality TV show 'Bigg Boss', in India's showbiz capital, Mumbai. "Bigg Boss" follows the international format and features celebrity contestants closeted in a house near Mumbai for three months with no access to the outside world. The inmates of the house are subjected to a life of constant scrutiny, with dozens of cameras and microphones focusing on them. Each week, one of them is voted out. Salman said that the show gets better with better contestants. However, Salman said he was reluctant to host the show this year as it was too tiring but later on stated that he still chose to be a part of the season eight as he liked the format. SRINAGAR/ POONCH, Sep 13 (ANI): Hundreds of evacuees boarded an aircraft on Saturday to leave the flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, as rescue operations continued on war-footing to pull out the victims. Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh said 130,000 people have been rescued from the flood-hit region while 200 lost their lives. The Indian army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers distributed 224,000 litres of water and food to survivors. Many people praised the Indian army on social media for its rescue and relief efforts, but others vented their anger at delays in getting help to survivors. Sep 13, 2014

IAF evacuates more than 2200 people from flood hit J&K, working to supply relief materials

New Delhi, Sep 09 (ANI): IAF Spokesperson Group Captain Gerard Galway on Tuesday said that the force have evacuated more than 2200 people from flood hit Jammu & Kashmir, including 800 who have been winched up. Galway said that a total of 50 aircraft and 30 helicopters are providing relief materials in the affected region and is working for the rescue of the stranded people. Flood Victims laud Indian Army for commendable rescue operations in JandK

Srinagar, Sep 09 (ANI): Thousands of people rescued from the flood hit areas of Kashmir, lauded the Indian Army for its commendable operation in bringing them to safety. Some 2,500 communities are destroyed or partially underwater, while thousands of people are stranded on their rooftops still waiting for rescue. Major flooding following heavy rains caught people in low-lying areas off guard and nearly 5,000 people had to be rescued by the army. About 22 Air force helicopters and four aircraft were deployed to evacuate the stranded people and to deliver relief. About 120 army units and eight teams of police reservists, equipped with boats and life jackets, were in action. Another flood victim, Umesh Yadav said that they were rescued by Army helicopters from the terrace of the building. Sep 9, 2014
