BSE closes points 244.48 down on September 15

New Delhi, Sept 15 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 244.48 points down to stand at 26,816.56. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 63.50 points down to stand at 8,042.00. FRL and CESC were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 8.12% and 7.33% along with BRITANNIA and UNITECH with an increase of 6.37% and 5.01% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include YESBANK and BHUSHAN STEEL LTD. with a decrease of 5.17% and 4.96% along with JINDAL STEEL and POWER LTD. and JPINFRATEC with a decrease of 4.79% and 4.03% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 50.15 points at 17,878.24 while the banking sector is down 99.24 points at 18,507.77 and the reality sector is 3.18 points up at 1,760.87. SC asks Prashant Bhushan to reveal name of whistle-blower in Ranjit Sinha case in sealed envelope

New Delhi, Sep 15 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday directed lawyer Prashant Bhushan to disclose the source of his information in the 2G scam case about CBI Chief Ranjit Sinha. The court asked Bhushan to submit the name and address of the whistle-blower in a sealed envelope. The CBI chief, defending himself, has said that 90 per cent of entries in the register are forged while some entries may be genuine. However, Bhushan said that this infringes on the privacy of the whistle-blower and therefore needs permission from the same. The court thus gave a week's time to Bhushan and the next hearing is to take place next Monday. Sep 15, 2014

Police recover arms and ammunition from Maoist camp in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sep 12 (ANI): In a combing operation, police and district forces busted a Maoist camp in Gajapati district of Odisha and seized arms and ammunition. The combing operation was conducted in Barimunda jungle, where exchange of fire also took place between the police and rebels. Superintendent of Police, Satyajit Nayak, who led the operation, suspected that a temporary camp was functioning in the area. A police official sustained minor injury during the encounter. Around four Maoists were present and managed to escape after the gun battle. The Maoists control large but poor areas of the region and often attack railway lines and mining operations to cripple economic activity, such as the transportation of coal to power and steel companies. Ranjit Sinha submits affidavit in 2G case trial to SC

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): CBI director Ranjit Sinha on Friday filed his affidavit in the Supreme Court in respect of the accusations against him over the controversial visitors' logbook at his Delhi residence. Sinha's lawyer Vikas Singh said that he has placed the affidavit in a sealed cover before a bench led by Justice HL Dattu. The matter will be heard by the court on Monday next. It had earlier asked Sinha to reply to the plea moved for removing him from the 2G probe. Singh also alleged that the entire application filed by Prashant Bhushan is completely malicious and false. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 20.95 points down to stand at 8,152.95. ASHOK LEYLAND LTD. and NHPC were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 5.44% and 5.14% along with IDEA and BHUSAN STEEL with an increase of 5.05% and 5.00% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include SOBHA and UNITECH with a decrease of 3.99% and 3.21% along with TORNT POWER and NATIONALUM with a decrease of 3.12% and 2.62% at the close of the markets.
