Bangladesh war crime accused Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's family urge SC to review its verdict

Dhaka, Nov 11 (ANI): Family members of the Islamist leader, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, convicted for war crimes, urged Bangladesh Supreme Court to review its verdict of upholding his death penalty. In May last year, a special war crimes tribunal found Kamaruzzaman, an assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, guilty of genocide and torture of unarmed civilians during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. The tribunal sentenced him to death. Kamaruzzaman's son, Hasan Iqbal pleaded his father's innocence and requested the court to reconsider the verdict. The tribunals have delivered death sentences for two Jamaat leaders, including its party chief and former minister, Motiur Rahman Nizami, late October this year. Nov 11, 2014

Power to be restored in Kashmir after days of restoration work

Poonch, Nov 08 (ANI): The power department of Jammu and Kashmir has started working on restoration work of power supply after the valley was destroyed in the recent floods. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley in September. Meanwhile, an executive engineer of Electricity Division in Poonch district, Mohammad Maqbool Nayak, said that one of the transformers in the area was damaged, which led to power crisis in the area. He further said they had borrowed power from Rajouri district and are working on installing another transformer to meet the requirements. Security tightened in Trilokpuri on Muharram

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): Security was tightened in Trilokpuri area on the occasion of Muharram on Tuesday. Along with the local police, Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were also seen on patrol in the area. The police have imposed restrictions on the display of weapons- swords, lathis and knives - during the festival and will be keeping a close watch on the procession. The measures have been taken in the wake of last week's communal clashes in the area which had left five injured including two teenagers. Over 1,000 policemen and paramilitary personnel have been posted at Trilokpuri area after the clashes took place. Security personnel are manning the streets in Srinagar and shops and businesses have been shut down. More than 6,000 police personnel and several drones with live satellite feed would patrol and guard the city so that mourners can observe the Muharram peacefully.
