SC asks reply from Government on transparency in CVC appointment

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court has asked a reply from the Central Government regarding transparency in appointment of CVCs by the government. Lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that the Court sought an answer as to why appointments were being made by a limited number of people and opportunity not reaching the general population as a whole. He added that the next hearing will be held on October 14 and till then no appointments will be made. Sep 18, 2014

Prashant Bhushan refuses to reveal whistleblower's name to SC in Ranjit Sinha's case

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): Lawyer Prashant Bhushan on Thursday said that the Supreme Court had asked him to reveal the whistleblower's name in case against CBI Chief Ranjit Sinha, to which he refused to do so. Bhushan said that in a meeting of Centre of Public Interest Litigation, it was decided that the whistleblower's name shall not be revealed citing danger to his life as also seen in previous cases. The Court had asked Bhushan to disclose the name of the whistleblower that had passed information regarding the file book of CBI on basis of which the case was filed. Sep 18, 2014

Boxer Manoj Kumar to get Arjuna Award after winning court battle

New Delhi, Sep 17 (ANI): Boxer Manoj Kumar, who was earlier not considered for the Arjuna award by the Kapil Dev-led Committee, will receive the honor after he won the legal battle and the sports ministry accepted his nomination. Kumar was mistakenly considered to be involved in the doping case by the committee and had challenged the committee's decision in the High Court. Manoj Kumar's lawyer Rahul Mehra said that he is very happy with the Court's decision and that justice has been finally met. Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that due to court's observation and the agreement of the members of the selection committee the decision has been taken. New Delhi, Sep 16 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday returned the Dadri land to the farmers, which was taken by the UP government citing public purpose, but was given to Reliance for personal use. The court also convicted the UP government of misusing the land acquisition power in the process. SC asks Prashant Bhushan to reveal name of whistle-blower in Ranjit Sinha case in sealed envelope

New Delhi, Sep 15 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday directed lawyer Prashant Bhushan to disclose the source of his information in the 2G scam case about CBI Chief Ranjit Sinha. The court asked Bhushan to submit the name and address of the whistle-blower in a sealed envelope. The CBI chief, defending himself, has said that 90 per cent of entries in the register are forged while some entries may be genuine. However, Bhushan said that this infringes on the privacy of the whistle-blower and therefore needs permission from the same. The court thus gave a week's time to Bhushan and the next hearing is to take place next Monday. Sep 15, 2014

SC allows Italian marines to go home on health grounds for 4 months

New Delhi /Kochi, Sept 13 (ANI): SC lawyer KTS Tulsi said Italian marine, Massimiliano Latorre, facing murder charges for killing Indian fishermen, was allowed to go home as he was ill and there was no progress in the case. The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha said the order would be effective only after the Italian marine has filed an "unequivocal and unambigous undertaking" on his return to India upon the completion of four months. The marines, Latorre and Salvatore Girone, part of a military security team protecting a tanker from piracy are accused of shooting two Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala in February 2012. The two men deny killing anyone or aiming directly at the fishing boat. They are on bail but cannot leave India. Ranjit Sinha submits affidavit in 2G case trial to SC

New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): CBI director Ranjit Sinha on Friday filed his affidavit in the Supreme Court in respect of the accusations against him over the controversial visitors' logbook at his Delhi residence. Sinha's lawyer Vikas Singh said that he has placed the affidavit in a sealed cover before a bench led by Justice HL Dattu. The matter will be heard by the court on Monday next. It had earlier asked Sinha to reply to the plea moved for removing him from the 2G probe. Singh also alleged that the entire application filed by Prashant Bhushan is completely malicious and false.
