UNICEF South Asia Ambassador Aamir Khan calls for change to fight malnutrition

Kathmandu, Oct 10 (ANI): UNICEF South Asia Ambassador Aamir Khan said its time to change, give equal rights to girl child and join hands to fight malnutrition. Khan said in Kathmandu that child stunting remains one of the greatest development challenges in South Asia, adding that stunted children have stunted bodies, stunted brains and stunted lives. Khan, who is on a three-day visit to Nepal, was named UNICEF's national ambassador for India in 2011. The UN agency officially announced Khan as new UNICEF ambassador after he visited Kapilvastu and Lumbini in west Nepal on Wednesday to observe a locally initiated nutrition programme by women health volunteers, saving thousands of children from malnutrition, a common phenomenon in South Asia. India's UNICEF Ambassador Aamir Khan raises concerns about malnutrition in Nepal

Kapilvastu, Oct 09 (ANI): India's UNICEF ambassador and versatile Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan, raised concerns on the issue of malnutrition in Nepal as he met health workers and discussed their grievances on his three-day visit to the Himalayan nation. Khan said that UNICEF was keen that he should expand his responsibility not just as a national ambassador, but for the entire region of south Asia. During his stay, Khan visited various villages in Kapilvastu district to check the functioning of health facility centres and initiated awareness on the issue. Among the villages in the Kapilvastu district, he spent an hour in Pakadi village health centre and observed how the health workers screen children with malnutrition under factors of height, weight and other measurements.
