Annual Magh Mela starts in Allahabad amidst tight security

Allahabad, Jan 05 (ANI): With the annual Magh Mela beginning on Monday, police have stepped up security in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh. During the Magh Mela, thousands of elated Hindus stream to Allahabad for taking a dip at Sangam, the confluence point, where rivers Ganges and Yamuna meet a third mythical river. Several cultural events such as dramatic portrayals from Hindu Epics with music and dance performances, folk theatre are a part of the grand event. Free food and accommodation is provided to Hindu sages and people attending the fair. Reportedly over 25 lakh pilgrims are expected to turn up on the first day of this month-long event. In order to ensure that no untoward incident takes place, the police are leaving no stone unturned in matters of security. Inspector General (IG), Allahabad zone, Daljeet Chaudhary said that cameras had been installed at all strategic points to keep an eye on every movement. Jan 5, 2015

Maoists attack stone crusher unit in Kerala

Kerala, Jan 03 (ANI): Maoists in Kerala ransacked and set ablaze a stone crusher unit. State Home Minister, Ramesh Chennithala, said the attack took place in the wee hours in Kannur district. Communist Party of India (Maoist) claimed responsibility for the attack through posters pasted at the office premises. The rebels also destroyed the office phone, fax machine, computer, CCTV cameras and window glasses before burning important government documents. The attack comes days after Chennithala's two-day visit to tribals belts in Wayanad district. The rebels have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times in areas where poor, tribal villagers came into conflict with mining companies seeking resources for industrialisation. Mumbai, Jan 02 (ANI): Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday while speaking on the Mumbai train services disruption said that corrective measures have been taken and normalcy is being restored in the region. He added that he had called a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, ministers and the concerned officers of the state to discuss the matter. Services of local trains in Mumbai were affected after an overhead cable wire fell down on the tracks. Mumbai, Jan 02 (ANI): Services of local trains in Mumbai were affected on Friday after an overhead cable wire fell down on the tracks. According to reports, the incident happened on the local central line. A local train broke down at the Thakurli station, near Kalyan, in Thane district. There were also reports of stone pelting and torching of vehicles by disgruntled commuters in and around the Diva Station. Police had to resort to a mild baton charge to discharge agitating crowds that had gathered in the station's vicinity to protest over the delay in the plying of trains.
