Arun Jaitley promises simplified tax regime

New Delhi, Dec 26 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday (December 26) promised a simplified tax structure, but did not specify any deadline. Jaitley made the comments while addressing recruits of the Indian Revenue Service in New Delhi. Jaitley also called upon the taxmen to be both "firm and fair" while calculating taxes. Jammu, Dec 25 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley while addressing a press conference after a meeting of the newly-elected MLAs, said that the legislators have authorized BJP President Amit Shah to decide the future course of action on government formation. He added that popularity vote of J and K is with the BJP. The MLAs in the meeting discussed the issue of government formation in a hung House. New Delhi/Kolkata, Dec 24 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Wednesday after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the government has decided to recommend promulgation of insurance amendment laws to President Pranab Mukherjee. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that it shows the government has no respect for the parliament. CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury said that he had written a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee appealing him not to let the ordinance pass. General Secretary J.P. Nadda and Vinay Sahstrabuddhe have been appointed as the party observers to oversee the election of the leader of the legislature party in Jharkhand. Venkaiah Naidu lauds tabling of goods and service tax bill in Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu lauded the Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the parliament during its winter session, saying once implemented the bill will be one of the most far reaching tax reforms since independence. Jaitley had on December 19 tabled GST bill, pressing on with a key piece of reform to replace a myriad range of state taxes. The bill introduced by Jaitley needs the support of two thirds of members of parliament as well as ratification by state legislatures which is expected to happen by the next session of parliament.
