It was art house darlings that lead the way at the 87th Academy Awards nominations. ‘Birdman’ and ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ picked up nine nominations each including Best Picture and Best Director. While Michael Keaton received his first nod as Best Actor for ‘Birdman’, Meryl Streep picked up her 19th nomination for ‘Into The Woods’. J.K. Simmons, who just won the Golden Globe for ‘Whiplash’ is the front-runner in the Best Supporting Actor category but he’ll have stiff competition from fellow nominees Robert Duvall, Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton & Mark Ruffalo. Bradley Cooper nabbed a Best Actor nod, nudging out “Selma’s” David Oyelowo and “Nightcrawler’s” Jake Gyllenhaal. A notable snub for Best Actress was Jennifer Aniston for her much praised performance in ‘Cake’. However the category will be well represented with nods to Felicity Jones, Rosamund Pike, Reese Witherspoon & Julianne Moore. Hosted this year by Neil Patrick Harris, the award show will broadcast live on February 22nd. LONDON Fans braved the weather for the U.K. premiere of ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’. Star Colin Firth led the way down the red carpet along with fellow cast members Mark Strong, Taron Egerton and Sofia Boutella. Petrol price cut by Rs 2.42 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.25 a litre

New Delhi, Jan 16 (ANI): Oil marketing companies on Friday cut petrol prices by Rs 2.42 while it cut diesel price by Rs 2.25 per litre. Meanwhile, the government raised the excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 a litre. Retail pump rates will remain unchanged as the increase in excise duty neutralises the cut in petrol and diesel prices warranted from crude oil price slumping to about USD 46 per barrel. The increase, the fourth since Prime Minister Narendra Modi lifted diesel price controls in October' seeks to cash in on lower world oil prices to bolster strained government finances without stoking inflation. The Finance Ministry notification said the excise duty hike will be effective from midnight tonight. Jan 16, 2015

Politicos call for adequate law & order in Delhi as police constable shot dead by Liquor Mafia

New Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday called for adequate law and order situation in Delhi as a Delhi Police constable was shot dead by an unidentified assailant and another died after a truck rammed a Police Control Room (PCR) Van in East Delhi's Mayur Vihar around midnight. AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that Delhi needs a stable government which takes care of the national capital, its police force and others. He said that the Delhi Police and their conditions need to be improved and that this can be done only once AAP comes to power. He also demanded compensation to family of the dead constable.
