Regional leaders in Tamil Nadu slam Sri Lankan navy chief's Indian visit

Chennai, Oct 22 (ANI): The visit of chief of Sri Lankan Navy, Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera, to India drew flak from politicos of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. National committee head of a Tamil nationalist party, Naam Tamilar Katchi, Ayyanathan, said to think of a security agreement with Sri Lanka is a diplomatic blunder. Sri Lanka, he added, is already sharing its ports with China, and to share India's southern region's security with Sri Lanka is to share it with China. This will strain the relations between the government of India and people of Tamil Nadu. PM Modi meets top military officers at Combined Commanders' Conference

New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met top military officers at the defence ministry War Room at a time when tension continues along the border with both China and Pakistan. The Combined Commanders' Conference is the first meeting of the prime minister with all top commanders, including the three service chiefs. The three service chiefs are expected to give elaborate presentations to the prime minister on the security scenario. The Indian Air Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, will make the first presentation, followed by the Indian Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan and the Indian Army Chief General Dalbir Singh. The prime minister and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley will address the conference. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Defence Secretary RK Mathur, among others are attending the conference. Oct 17, 2014
