Rajouri , Sep 08 (ANI): The Red Cross came as a beacon of hope to the flood ravished people of Kashmir as officials distributed relief material to the affected victims. The Red Cross distributed relief material for the homeless in the flooded areas of Kalakote, Nowshera and Sunderbani in Rajouri district. More than 175 people lost their lives in the unprecedented floods and thousands were left homeless as Jhelum and other rivers overflowed their banks in Kashmir. Army regiments like the 425 Field Hospitals have set up relief camps in the state and have collaborated with district hospitals and NGOs to provide medical aid to the affected. People suffered huge losses as the incessant rainfall led to house collapse, damaging property worth lakhs. Sep 8, 2014

Maoists open fire on police patrol in Jharkhand

Latehar, Sep 08 (ANI): Maoists opened fire on a police patrol party in Jharkhand but nobody was injured, said a police officer. Acting on a tip-off, police laid a cordon to nab the militants but they managed to escape by taking cover of fire. Police officer, Deepak Kumar said Maoists had suffered losses during exchange of fire. Police recovered bullets and other materials from the spot. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s. Sep 8, 2014

Omar Abdullah promises to compensate families affected due to cross-border shelling

Jammu, Sept 03 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met the families affected by Pakistan's ceasefire violations along the international border and promised to amend the existing compensation SRO policy. He expressed regret over the fact that solely militancy affected families get relief funds, and not the ones which also suffer due to cross-border shelling. Abdullah added whoever has borne heavy losses due to damage to their crops because of exchange of fire will also be compensated with free ration for three months. Meanwhile, Abdullah also inaugurated a multi-level parking lot in Jammu.
