Government carries out search and rescue training in Nainital

Nainital, Nov 21 (ANI): The disaster management department in Uttarakhand trained firemen for search and rescue operations recently. The state witnessed one of the worst disasters last year. The training is being provided by the disaster management department of Uttarakhand state government. The instructor, Sunil Vaidh, said the firemen were being trained in carrying out search and rescue operations in the case of any untoward incident. Vaidh added about 2000 government officials have been trained till now and further such training programmes would carry on. A trainee fireman, Bhairav Dutt, was happy to learn the techniques. PM Modi visits Melbourne cricket ground with Australian PM Tony Abbott

Melbourne, Nov 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the 161-year-old Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to attend a reception and dinner hosted by Australian Prime Minster Tony Abbott. PM Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart posed for photographs with the 2015 Cricket World Cup Trophy, along with former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev among others. Modi also gifted an Indian "Skippers" Memento for Australia while at the MCG. The memento was signed by World Cup winning captains and the PM. Along with Australian PM Tony Abbott, present on the occasion were also Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, VVS Laxman and Allan Border. Modi later posted a selfie with his Australian counterpart saying, "With my friend @TonyAbbottMHR at the MCG." French Navy Chief on six-day India visit to strengthen strategic ties

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): The French Navy Chief Admiral Bernard Rogel arrived in India on a six-day visit during which he will tour naval facilities in Goa and Mumbai, besides seeing the Mazagon Dock which is building six Scorpene submarines with the help of a French firm. Admiral Bernard Rogel told mediapersons that he was happy to be in India, a strategic partner for years. The Admiral was received at the South Block lawns by Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan and accorded a ceremonial guard of honour. The first Scorpene submarine is expected to be launched in September 2015. Visakhapatnam, Nov 10 (ANI): India's Navy Chief Admiral Robin Dhowan met the family of the sailor James Jacob, who was killed in the recent ship accident off the Visakhapatnam coast and assured all possible help to the bereaved. A torpedo recovery vessel sank off India's coastal city of Visakhapatnam killing at least one person. Dhowan promised to extend all help to the family of 26-year-old sailor, James Jacob. The vessel was on an exercise to recover practice torpedoes fired by fleet ships, when flooding occurred in one of the compartments, the Navy said in a statement. Nov 10, 2014
