New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Deputy Election Commissioner of India Vinod Zutshi on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections witnessed the highest turnout in the last 25 years. He added that the overall voting turnout recorded for all phases in the entire J and K state is 65%. He further stated that overall polling percentage recorded for 5th phase of the assembly election is 76%. As many as 18,28,904 eligible voters, comprising 9,59,011 men and 8,69,891 women exercised their franchise at 2,366 polling stations. Dec 20, 2014

Final phase polling begins in Jharkhand

Jharkhand, Dec 20 (ANI): The fifth and final phase of voting for 16 Assembly seats spread across six districts has begun in Jharkhand amid high security. Among the heavyweights, Hemant Soren, the JMM leader, is contesting from Dumka, apart from Barhait constituency, where he is facing challenge from former Morcha leader and BJP candidate Hemlal Murmu. Sixteen of the 81 assembly constituencies will vote in this phase. In all 36,90,069 voters, including 17,84,486 women, are eligible to exercise their franchise to choose among 208 candidates, 16 of them women. Voting would end at 3 pm in all the seats. Dec 20, 2014

Imphal, Dec 17 (ANI): Boxer Sarita Devi on Wednesday thanked the Sports Minister, Boxing India, SAI, Sachin Tendulkar and the entire nation for supporting her. Even as the International Boxing Federation AIBA has imposed one year ban on Sarita as she refused to accept her bronze medal in the Asian Games which took place in Incheon this year, the boxer expressed happiness that she would get a chance to participate in the Olympics. Sarita will be eligible to return to action by November 2015, in time for the women's Olympic qualifiers for the Rio Games in 2016. AIBA bans Sarita Devi for one year as she refused bronze at Asian Games

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): International Boxing Federation AIBA has imposed one year ban on Boxer Sarita Devi as she refused to accept her bronze medal in the Asian Games which took place in Incheon this year. President of Boxing India Sandeep Jajodia said that it was a big relief for Sarita as well as Boxing India. Vice President of the Indian Olympics Association, Tarlochan Singh said that Sarita will not be at much loss as there is no championship in this one year. Former Athlete Sunita Godara said that the government should allow Sarita to continue practicing her sport. India's foreign coach BI Fernandez has been banned for two years while national coach GS Sandhu has been cleared.
