New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday called upon the media to act responsibly on matters of national security and sensitive issues. Jaitley made the comments while delivering the first Justice J. S. Verma Memorial lecture on the 'Freedom and Responsibility of Media' in New Delhi. He said the challenges before media were to ensure quality and credibility while reporting. Jaitley also advised media to avoid conducting parallel trials in reporting matters that were subjudice. New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Political leaders reacted on Sunday over the controversy of Censor Board members resigning alleging corruption and interference from government, after which Finance Minister Arun Jaitley wrote an article defending the government. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that there is no interference from government into the work of Censor Board. BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra also said that Congress party interfered in the Censor Board's work. AAP leader Ashutosh, however, criticized the BJP government for putting blames on UPA government. Mumbai, Jan 18 (ANI): As nine more members of the Censor Board resigned protesting against alleged interference by the government, former censor board chairman and veteran Actor Anupam Kher said that the allegations levelled by former censor board members against the government were not correct and added that the issue was being politicised. "The UPA Government had politicised the Censor Board," Jaitley said in an article titled 'Rebels without a cause' posted on Facebook. New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Dismissing allegations against the government of interference and corruption by former Censor Board members, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said that the former should be loyal to the Government of India and not to any particular political party. He said that the government had faith in the board and that is why it gave them time to work and extension of term as well. Rathore said that the government wants to stay on a positive note but now the aim is to form a new, better CBFC in a few days.
