PM Modi reaches Visakhapatnam to review situation after cyclone Hudhud

Visakhapatnam, Oct 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday arrived at the port city of Visakhapatnam to review the situation after cyclone Hudhud hit the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Modi was accompanied by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. The PM will also be conducting an aerial survey of the cyclone affected areas in both the states. Modi has instructed top officials to ensure that there is no bottleneck in relief and rescue work in the cyclone affected areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Residents of Visakhapatnam face lack of amenities after cyclone Hudhud

Visakhapatnam/ Bhubaneshwar, Oct 13 (ANI): Residents in the port city of Visakhapatnam faced lack of food and fuel on Monday morning after cyclone Hudhud lashed the Andhra Pradesh on Sunday leaving behind a trail of destruction in its path. The cyclone blasted India's eastern seaboard on Sunday with gusts of up to 195 km per hour (over 120 mph), uprooting trees, damaging buildings and killing at least six people despite a major evacuation effort. The cyclone after passing through Visakhapatnam had hit the adjoining state of Odisha but with less intensity. The capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneshwar, saw less damage in comparison. Ranchi, Oct 13 (ANI): After leaving at least five people dead and a trail of destruction in the port city of Visakhapatnam and adjoining districts of Odisha, rains lashed Jharkhand in the wake of Cyclone Hudhud, after it made landfall earlier on Sunday. Cyclone Hudhud blasted eastern seaboard with gusts of up to 195 km per hour (over 120 mph), uprooting trees, damaging buildings and killing at least five people despite a major evacuation effort. Visakhapatnam was hammered as the cyclone made landfall, unleashing the huge destructive force it had sucked up from the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal. Most people heeded warnings to take refuge, but five were killed by falling trees and masonry, and thousands of homes were damaged, emergency officials said. Strong winds and heavy rains lashed Jharkhand on Sunday night because of which electric poles and trees were destroyed in the interior of the state. A resident Nageshwar alleged that claims made by government that everything was normal was false. Threat of cyclone Hudhud halts train services in eastern coast

Visakhapatnam, Oct 11 (ANI): Indian Railways cancelled trains in the eastern coast on Saturday as Cyclone Hudhud approaches with the threat of widespread damage. Thirty seven trains originating from port city Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneshwar or going through either of them, were cancelled for Sunday, when the cyclone is set to hit. Thirty one trains will be diverted through other states. Cyclone Hudhud was about 470 km offshore on Friday, satellite images showed, and was expected to hit land around the key port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning. It will also impact the neighbouring Odisha. Passengers are now scared to board trains. Help lines have been set up at various railway stations and emergency and controlling staff have been deployed to meet any contingency. The railways will also coordinate with the State Government and National Disaster Relief Force, if need be. The railways have also guaranteed speedy refunds for passengers whose trains have been cancelled or diverted. Oct 11, 2014
