Mumbai, Jan 15 (ANI): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) surprised markets with a 25 basis point cut in interest rates on Thursday and signalled it could do more, amid signs of slowing inflation and what it said was a government commitment to contain the fiscal deficit. Service Chiefs pay tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti on Army Day

New Delhi, Jan 15 (ANI): The nation on Thursday is celebrating the Army Day. All three service chiefs participated in the celebration. Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Robin K Dhowan and Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha paid tributes at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate this morning. The chiefs also lay floral wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti remembering the martyred soldiers and thereafter signed the record book at the India Gate. This was followed by Army Parade amidst intense fog. The service chiefs saluted the army during the parade. Army Day is observed on January 15 every year. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the Indian Army on the occasion. Modi tweeted saying, "On Army Day I salute the indomitable courage and valour of our Army. New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that former DRDO Chief Avinash Chander's tenure had finished in November and Chander was on contract for the next three years. Parrikar said he had recommended that such a senior position cannot be held by a person on contract. He further stated that no new name has yet been decided as Chander's successor. Meanwhile, Indian Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan said that removal of DRDO chief was government's decision. Innovative bike squad to put out fire in Varanasi

Varanasi, Jan 11 (ANI): Fire brigade department in Varanasi has launched an innovative bike service to reach the narrow alleys of the city in case fire breaks out. Brain behind the project, Sunil Singh, said the idea occurred to him as fire brigade department faced difficulties in negotiating the narrow by-lanes of the city. Singh said each bike is fitted with a siren and hooter and two fire extinguishing cylinders with a capacity of 9 liter water and foam chemical container. He said the new bike squad was proving to be extremely helpful to the fire brigade department. Taking part in a mock drill, fireman Dhananjay Singh said it was a good initiative as fire could be restricted from spreading. Stringent security measures in place at Indian coasts: Admiral RK Dhowan

Bengaluru, Jan 10 (ANI): Chief of Indian Navy, Admiral RK Dhowan on Saturday said that stringent security measures were being observed at all the coasts across the country. He said that a strict security cover was in place in these areas even before the Pakistani 'terror boat' was intercepted by Indian Coast Guard off the Porbandar coast in western India on the New Year's Eve. Admitting that dealing with the "non-sate actors" was a tough job, Dhowan said that thousands of merchant ships were in the Indian waters at any given time, guarding the country's 7516 km coastline. SC says no trial against Sunil Mittal, Ravikant Ruia in 2G spectrum case

New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday quashed ongoing trials against Sunil Bharti Mittal, the chairman and managing director of Bharti Cellular Ltd, and Ravi Ruia, the promoter of Essar Group, in a case of allocation of additional spectrum. The court quashed the CBI special court's order making the two top telecom executives accused in the case. The industrialists had been summoned as accused by a special CBI court hearing the case involving the allocation of additional second 2G spectrum in 2002. Their names had not figured in the charge sheet submitted by the CBI, which was handling the case. Both Mittal and Ruia had approached the Supreme Court, challenging the order. The case relates to alleged irregularities in allocation of additional spectrum - 10 Mhz instead of 6.2 Mhz - during the NDA rule. Jan 9, 2015
