Kolkata, Nov 15 (ANI): Police lathicharged and manhandled media persons outside the SSKM hospital in Kolkata on Saturday while making way for Saradha scam accused Kunal Ghosh who was being taken to Bangur Institute of Neurology for medical tests, a day after he allegedly attempted to commit suicide inside the jail. Ghosh, had taken dozens of sleeping pills yesterday morning. In the last hearing when he was produced by the CBI in the court, Ghosh had threatened that he would be forced to commit suicide if the persons whom he had named in the Saradha scam case were not arrested by CBI. Ghosh was first arrested by West Bengal Police and later shifted to CBI custody after the central agency took charge of the probe. Nov 15, 2014

Doctor involved in sterilization surgeries in Bilaspur taken into custody

Bilaspur/ Raipur, Nov 13 (ANI): Doctor RK Gupta, who conducted sterilization surgeries on 85 women in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur District, has been taken into custody. Gupta had been suspended on Tuesday on the orders of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh after the incident came to light. Earlier it was reported that the death toll in the sterilization tragedy rose to 13 with the death of another woman. More than 50 women, who were left in a critical state after undergoing sterilization operations, are undergoing treatment at four different hospitals in Bilaspur. A team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is in Bilaspur to attend to critical patients. Explosion near NIA Office in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 11 (ANI): A small explosion occurred near the office of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Kolkata, police and interior office officials said. An officer at the police control room in Kolkata said the cause of the blast at the NIA office had not yet been established. Interior ministry official said preliminary information was that nobody had been injured. The NIA is currently investigating an earlier explosion in Burdwan, near Kolkata in October, that the agency believes was a botched plot by Bangladeshi Islamist militants to kill Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. A Kolkata court on Sunday gave the NIA custody of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) commander Sajid, a Bangladeshi national who West Bengal police arrested on Saturday in connection with the blast. Assam Police produced Begum in the court of the chief judicial magistrate. She was reportedly engaged in spreading jihadi ideology among women. According to reports, Sujina Begum, who had received training in jihad at some madrassas in West Bengal, was actively working to spread the Islamist terror network in Assam along with her husband. Bangladesh PM adviser assures positive steps against cross-border militancy

New Delhi, Nov 05 (ANI): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser on Wednesday (November 05) said that both India and Bangladesh have been working to fight against terrorism which is prevalent at the porous Indo-Bangladesh border. Sheikh Hasina's adviser Gauhar Rizvi said that given the fact that Bangladesh and India share 2400 miles of common boundary and much of these boundaries are very porous. Therefore, it is very common for criminals, terrorists, smugglers cross-border flee from one country to another and take advantage to destabilise the establishment. He further said that Bangladesh has always been satisfied with the intelligence that has been shared by India with us and we consider them to be very helpful to us. Rizvi was commenting on the recent blast that took place in Burdwan district on India's eastern West Bengal. The explosions in a house on October 02 had left two suspected militants dead, while the city court had sent three accused to police custody. New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): Manipur's "Iron Lady" and India's human rights activist Irom Sharmila, who is on a hunger strike for past 14 years protesting against alleged army atrocities, said on Friday that she was not a militant and only fighting for right to live. Sharmila is facing trial in a Delhi court for alleged suicide attempt by refusing food during a protest in the Indian capital in 2006. A senior Delhi Police official claimed that he saw Sharmila's health deteriorating. Under Indian law, attempting suicide is a punishable offence. Seven-storey building collapses in Pune, several feared trapped

Pune, Oct 31 (ANI): A 7-storey newly constructed building collapsed in Pune on Friday with several residents, including a child, feared trapped under the debris. Police rushed to the spot and officials started rescue operation at the venue. The building had 20 flats in which eight families were living. Currently, members of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire brigade are trying to rescue one person. Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune, Chandrashekhar Daithankar said builder was taken into custody and the inquiry was going on.
