Textile industry expects tax cuts in upcoming budget

Surat, Feb 11 (ANI): Manufacturers in textile industry in Gujarat expect tax cuts from the Central government in upcoming budget to help the industry come out of crisis. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will on February 28 present his first full-year budget, seeking to put Asia's third-largest economy on a path of 7-8 percent growth over the next two years. In Surat, industrialists said they were facing crisis due to rise in prices of raw materials like yarn and colour chemicals. A favourable budget will being relief for one-and-a-half million people associated with the industry, he added. Vakharia also hoped for relaxation in prices of acquiring land. Investors and manufacturers have long advocated the GST as a way to simplify taxes while broadening the tax base, adding as much as 2 percentage points to economic growth in India. Feb 11, 2015

President chairs Governors conference of all states

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday (February 11) met governors and lieutenant governors of states and union territories to discuss emerging challenges and other issues. The two-day governors conference will discuss issues like security, with main focus on borders, finance, sanitation, employment and on achievement of flagship schemes and projects. This is the first conference after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government came to power in May last year. As per media reports, plans like Modi's 'Swachh Bharat' or Clean India campaign, skill development, etc will also be discussed. Need evidence to take action against black money account holders, centre taking rigorous steps: Jait

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said that there is a need for evidence and that only revelation of names of the black money account holders is not enough to initiate legal action. The Centre has initiated tax-evasion proceedings against 60 Indian accounts that have allegedly parked black money in foreign accounts, Jaitley said. Jaitley further said the Centre has put in rigorous efforts towards digging black money during the last six to seven months. He said that most of the names revealed in the list today are known to the government. He said that the assessments of 350 account holders have been done and the rest will be completed by March 31. Jaitley said that the PM gave opening comments thereafter each states gave their opinions. He said that the opening comments were in context of governing model and that the PM said that priorities are growth, investment, jobs and decentralization. He also said that Modi emphasized that economic activities should be in the states and there should be flexibility of states.
