Coal Scam: Special Court grants bail to ex Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda, 7 others

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda was granted bail on Wednesday by a Special Court in coal blocks allocation scam case despite opposition from the CBI. Earlier in the morning, the CBI had opposed the bail pleas of Madhu Koda and seven others alleging that they have conspired and abused their position to favor accused firm Vini Iron and Steel Udyog Ltd in allocation of a coal block. Lawyer Anshuman Sinha said that the bail application was moved in the court and the court granted bail to Madhu Koda on the condition that Koda will not leave the country. Feb 18, 2015

Politicos react on Teesta Setalvads bail rejection by Gujarat HC

New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): Congress leader Manish Tewari on Friday said activist Teesta Setalvad had played an important role in exposing the perpetrators of Gujarat riots and bringing them to justice and added that the steps taken against her were out of a sense of political vendetta. The Supreme Court had yesterday stopped the Gujarat police from arresting activist Teesta Setalvad for a day, following a petition by senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan. The apex court's relief for Setalvad's came after her anticipatory bail plea in connection with an embezzlement case was rejected by the Gujarat High Court. Besides Setalwad, her husband Javed Anand, former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri's (who was killed in Gujarat during the 2002 riots) son Tanvir Jafri are accused of misappropriating funds worth over Rs. 1 crore. Denying any misuse of funds, Setalvad had reportedly blamed political motives behind the case. Meanwhile, the BJP said that it would wait for the Supreme Court’s decision now over the case.
