Surat exhibits diamond studded replica of Mahatma Gandhi's spinning wheel

Surat, Jan 05 (ANI): Jewellers in Gujarat, the birth state of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, paid a tribute to the independence hero by creating a miniature replica of his iconic spinning wheel with gold and diamonds. The spinning wheel decorated with 45 grams of gold and 820 diamonds is on display at Sparkle International 2014, a gems and jewellery exhibition in Surat. Jewellers are hoping that their effort would foster the growth of diamonds globally. The dazzling wheel lured visitors at the exhibition to take a close look, appreciating the combination of the wheel, a symbol of self-reliance and non-violence, and precious diamonds. Jan 5, 2014

Dhaka, Dec 30 (ANI): Bangladeshi war veteran, Syed Shahidul Haque Mama who was also the second prosecution witness in the war crimes case against Islamist leader, Abdul Quader Molla hailed the decision to execute him for war crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. Molla was hanged on December 12, in the first war crimes execution in Bangladesh. He was accused of collaborating with Pakistani forces, who were eventually defeated with India's help. Pakistan, Dec 17 (ANI): As Pakistan Islamists rallied to condemn the execution of Bangladeshi Islamist leader Abdul Quader Mollah, country’s Interior Minister expressed grief and concern over the execution of war criminal and leader of Jamaat-e-Islami. Bangladesh executed Mollah on December 13 for war crimes he committed during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. About two hundred activists and supporters of Islamist group Jamaat-ud-Dawa and major Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged protest outside press club in Pakistan’s commercial capital Karachi. The protests were also held in the garrison city of Rawalpindi and Lahore. The demonstrators held banners and placards. The protest leaders while addressing crowd said that Mollah was hanged because of his loyalty and solidarity with Pakistan in 1971.
