Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): Chennai police on Sunday filed FIRs against DMK Chief M Karunanidhi and his son MK Stalin following the clashes between their supporters and AIADMK workers. Three FIRs have been lodged at the Royapettah Police Station against the two leaders and their supporters. The FIRs were lodged after some AIADMK workers alleged that some DMK supporters attacked them with deadly weapons near Karunanidhi's residence while they were protesting against DMK Chief. AIADMK workers were protesting against the DMK leaders alleging them for foisting the Disproportionate Assets case that led to the conviction of AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa by a Bangalore special court yesterday. Bangalore/ Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): AIADMK supporters on Sunday came out on protest in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu against the Bangalore special court's decision to sentence state Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for 4-years of jail in disproportionate assets case. Supporters shouted slogans and demanded release of Jayalalithaa. Security has been tightened as party supporters protested outside AIADMK Headquarters in Chennai. Jayalalithaa is the first state chief minister to have been ousted from the post because of a wealth case. She has been convicted of obtaining assets worth almost Rs. 66 crores through dishonest means during her first tenure as chief minister from 1991 to 1996. Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): Chennai woke up to a silent morning on Sunday after a Bangalore special court held Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa guilty in the disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa is sentenced to 4 years of jail for obtaining assets worth almost Rs. 66 crores through dishonest means during her first tenure as chief minister from 1991 to 1996. Saturday, the day of the sentence, left Chennai bruised, battered and licking the wounds caused by nearly half a day of violence and picketing. A tight security is at place outside DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's residence in Chennai, a day after AIADMK supporters burnt his effigies in protest. All business establishments and offices are shut and city's transportation also came to a halt. Jayalalithaa has been disqualified from public office for at least 6 years which, combined with the jail sentence, means that she cannot contest polls for 10 years. New York, Sep 28 (ANI): Bangladeshi expatriates held a protest against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the United States. Hasina was in New York to attend the 69th edition of United Nations General Assembly. The protesters blamed Hasina for killing thousands of the countrymen. Several supporters of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were also present during the demonstration. A protester, Giash Ahmed alleged misrule by Hasina in Bangladesh and protested at the ruling Awami League government's corruption in the country and the waste of money during the prime minister's visit to the US as she took an entourage of 180 members for attending a meeting. Bangalore/ Chennai, Sep 27 (ANI): Workers of Tamil Nadu's ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party were baton charged and later detained by Bangalore Police on Saturday for raising slogans in support of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Jayalalithaa is currently in the city to hear the verdict in an almost two-decades-old disproportionate assets case against her. The protest started from Tamil Nadu's Hosur City, where the police checked a bus for AIADMK supporters on their way to Bangalore. The supporters had also gathered near the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. The AIADMK workers also raised slogans in support of Jayalalithaa outside her residence in Chennai.
