Leonardo DiCaprio treated to 15 minutes with Pope Francis

There have been 13 popes named Leo in the history of the Roman Catholic Church but perhaps none of them was as famous as the Leo who entered the Vatican on 28 January: Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio. Oscar-nominated DiCaprio was received by Pope Francis and treated to a 15-minute audience with the pontiff. Sri Lanka: Over 350 confiscated elephant tusks destroyed

Sri Lanka has destroyed 359 elephant tusks on 26 January, after paying tribute with a Buddhist ceremony for the wild animals who lost their lives for them. Isis in Iraq: Roughly 3,500 held in slavery according to UN

An estimated 3,500 people, mainly women and children, are believed to be held as slaves in Iraq by Islamic State (Isis) militants who impose a harsh rule marked by gruesome public executions, the United Nations said on 19 January. The militant group, which also controls large parts of neighbouring Syria, is also responsible for over 18,000 deaths in Iraq since January 2014, according to the report.
