Kolkata court sends five accused in Burdwan blast to police custody

Kolkata, Jan 29 (ANI): A court in Kolkata city sent five people, accused in 2014 blast in Burdwan district, to police custody till February 03. Two members of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh were killed in an explosion while building homemade bombs in Burdwan district of West Bengal in October last year. Police in December had arrested a key suspect in the blast who they believed was linked to a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh and stage a coup there. A lawyer of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Shyamal Ghosh said that they needed more time to unearth details of their involvement. Pakistan arrests 38 Indian fishermen for violating its waters

Karachi, Jan 23 (ANI): Pakistan maritime authorities arrested thirty eight Indian fishermen and took into custody their seven boats for illegal fishing in the country's territorial waters, police said. The fishermen, who were arrested on Wednesday, had been handed over to Docks Police Station in the port city of Karachi on Thursday for necessary legal action. The arrested fishermen have been charged under Foreign Act and Fisheries Act. Police will present them before a magistrate on Friday, who will send them to jail. The South Asian rivals frequently arrest each other's fishermen for encroachment. Court extends police custody of Beant Singh's assassin

Patiala, Jan 23 (ANI): A local court in Patiala city extended police custody of assassin of former Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh. On January 06, Thai police arrested Gurmeet Singh, also known as Jagtar Singh Tara, a former member of the Babbar Khalsa International Sikh separatist group, convicted of involvement in a bomb attack in India two decades ago that killed 18 people, including Beant Singh. Tara's lawyer Baljinder Sodhi critcised the court's decision. Meanwhile, President of Shiromani Akali Dal, Simranjit Singh Mann and his party members protested against the extended police remand and shouted slogans outside the court premises. Tara was jailed for life in 2007 for his involvement in the 1995 attack outside a government complex in Chandigarh city. Jan 23, 2015

Court drops suicide charges against Irom Sharmila in Manipur

Imphal, Jan 23 (ANI): A court in Manipur dropped suicide charges against fasting human rights activist, Irom Sharmila who is on hunger strike for the last 14 years in protest against alleged army atrocities. In August last year, Sharmila, also known as the Iron Lady of Manipur, walked free from a prison hospital where doctors had force fed her to keep her alive after a trial judge found no evidence to support earlier charges filed by state prosecutors that she was trying to commit suicide by refusing food. However, within two days of release, she was arrested again. As soon as the news of Sharmila's release broke out, her supporters gathered outside the prison hospital where she was kept in custody. UK and US asking Pak to hand over Lakhvi to India correct step but later will not abide by the same:

Bhopal, Jan 20 (ANI): Defence Expert SR Sinho on Tuesday said that US and UK asking Pakistan to hand over Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi to India is a correct measure on the part of the two nations. Sinho said that Lakhvi is the most wanted and master mind of Mumbai attack and he should be given to India for detailed probe. However, he maintained that Pakistan will not abide by the same and will refrain from handing over Lakhvi to India. The defence expert said that Pakistan fears that if Lakhvi is handed over, then India might ask for custody of terrorists as well. Secondly, he said that the neighbouring nation also fears that many things will come out of Pakistan after handing over the 26/11 mastermind. Samaraweera arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to hold bilateral talks Swaraj. MEA Spoekesperson Syed Akbaruddin's tweet confirmed that the Sri Lankan minister said the nation sees India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a huge opportunity. He had also said that the visit to India within 5 days of President's swearing-in shows the nation's priority, the tweet further said. Saradha scam: Madan Mitra's judicial custody extended till Jan 30
