Divide within DU Academic council surfaces as some demand removal of FYUP while others favour it

New Delhi, June 25 (ANI): Divide within the Delhi University Academic Council surfaced as some demanded removal of FYUP while others justify the same on various grounds. Professor Vijay Chaudhary said that the council has decided certain guidelines for the removal of FYUP for the honours course and carry on the three years foundation courses and that the UGC should let the B. Tech courses remain functional for four years as that would only clear the interest of the students. DU teachers backing FYUP, go on hunger strike over DU-UGC tussle

New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): With the standoff between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Delhi University (DU) continuing, the university teachers who are in favour of the Four-year Undergraduate Programme hold a hunger strike on Tuesday. They alleged political interference in the issue and say that the Human Resource Development Ministry and the University Grants Commission are responsible for the mess. Meanwhile, Professor Surender Kumar also alleged attack by NSUI and ABVP member on him. TN professor develops robot to save children trapped in borewells

Tamil Nadu, June 24 (ANI): A 43-year-old college professor from Tamil Nadu, M Manikandan has developed a unique robot, which can rescue children who accidentally fall into open borewells – answering prayers of parents who have had the misfortune of their children falling into narrow open pits. Manikandan said he was inspired to invent the robot after his own son fell into a borewell almost a decade ago -- but was luckily rescued. Professor Manikandan developed the nine-feet-long robot with human-like arms along with clamps resembling fingers that can clutch and pull the trapped child out of borewell. Protest against FYUP continue with demand of DU VC's resignation

New Delhi, June 23 (ANI): The members of All India Students Association (AISA) on Monday, while staging protest a protest in front of the HRD ministry over the Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) in Delhi University were caught in a scuffle with the Delhi Police. The students demanded clarification regarding admissions under the programme which has lead to widespread difficulties due to the ongoing tiff between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the University. An AISA Member Anmol demanded DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dinesh Singh's resignation after he reportedly defended the FYUP against the UGC notices asking the varsity to roll back the course. ABVP members also protested outside DU's Faculty of Arts over the issue and demanded the VC's resignation. Meanwhile, HRD Minister Smriti Irani called an emergency meeting of a University Grants Commission (UGC)-appointed 10-member committee on Monday afternoon in attempt to arrive at an acceptable solution to the ongoing academic crisis.
