Tourists come calling in snow-covered Himachal Pradesh

Manali/Shimla, Feb 22 (ANI): Tourists from across the country, especially northern India, are thronging Himachal Pradesh to spend their weekends in the snow-covered Himalayan state. Tourism in the state had taken a backseat in the recent days due to natural calamities. But snowfall has revived the state's fortunes once again. Capital city of Shimla is well-known for winter sports like snow trekking, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice climbing and others. Other regions in Himachal Pradesh, like Kullu and Manali are also tourists' favourite when it comes to adventure sports. Poonch, Feb 21 (ANI): Heavy rainfall in several areas in Jammu and Kashmir washed away a portion of Sher-e-Kashmir bridge, snapping main land link to Poonch city. Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the country due to heavy rains, accompanied by snowfall and landslides. Normal life was paralyzed in the state's winter capital Jammu. Residents were angry as the local administration was providing little help to the marooned people. A resident, Nishu Gupta, said the city had come to a halt due to rains wondering the situation during monsoons. Another resident, Jagjit Singh, said people were facing severe hardships. Feb 21, 2015
