Dhaka, Nov 5 (ANI): Supporters of Bangladesh ruling Awami League party took to street on Wednesday against the strike called by Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat had called a three-day strike to protest against the death sentence pronounced by the court for their party chief accused of committing war crimes. Awami League Party Leader Mofazzal Hossain Maya said that Bengali community has rejected the strike in support of the court’s decision. Bangladesh's Supreme Court on Monday upheld the death penalty for an Islamist leader over atrocities committed during the country's war of independence from Pakistan more than four decades ago. Dhaka, Nov 04 (ANI): Supporters and activists of the ruling Awami League party hailed Bangladesh Supreme Court's verdict of upholding the death penalty for Islamist leader, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, convicted for war crimes. In May last year, a special war crimes tribunal found Kamaruzzaman, an assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, guilty of genocide and torture of unarmed civilians during the 1971 war. Defence lawyers earlier in the day said they would file a petition for a review but state prosecutors said it was not an option. Karachi/ Lahore, Nov 01 (ANI): Activists of Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami took to streets in protest against the death sentence awarded to the Bangladesh Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami party Chief Motiur Rahman Nizami, by the Bangladesh war crimes tribunal. Bangladesh's war crimes tribunal sentenced the chief of the Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami party to death on Wednesday for crimes against humanity, including genocide, torture and rape, during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. Denouncing the death sentence of Nizami, more than one hundred activists and supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami marched through the streets in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi.
