PM Modi unveils Mahatma Gandhi statue in Brisbane

Brisbane, Nov 16 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unveiled the statue of iconic freedon fighter Mahatma Gandhi in Brisbane Australia. Modi unveiled the statue even as supporters cheered him and shouted slogans at the Brisbane's Roma Street Parkland. Modi also offered flowers and paid his respect to Gandhi. Former honorary Indian consul in Brisbane Parsram Punj also participated in unveiling of the Gandhi statue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city. PM Modi is in the Australian city for the 9th G20 summit. The Prime Minister has planned extra events in Brisbane during his four-day visit including the unveiling of the statue, talks with Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, among other events. PM Modi's visit to Australia will hopefully strengthen ties with the near 300,000-strong Indian diaspora in the country, with a friendly tax regime for non-residents and options for dual citizenship on the wish list. His brother Purshottam Das said that Rampal's supporters will not move until they are given justice adding that the followers have been taught lessons of life by their preacher. Dharamsala, Nov 15 (ANI): Members of a Tibetan non-governmental organisation in exile, Students for a free Tibet-India, performed a political theatre in Dharamsala to urge the world leaders to come together to raise the issue of Tibet at the ongoing G-20 Leaders' Summit in Australia. The activists wore masks of various political leaders during their acts and also held banners. Many Tibetan supporters carried out similar acts across the world. A cycle rally was also carried out across University of Delhi to gather support for this new approach to talk about a solution to the Tibet problem. Security beefed up before murder-accused Rampal produced in court

Chandigarh/ Hisar, Nov 10 (ANI): Police and state administration in Punjab beefed up security measures on Monday (November 10) hours before murder-accused Sant Rampal is produced in court for contempt. Rampal faces contempt for skipping judicial proceedings before a sessions court in Hisar last Wednesday (November 05), after which a non-bailable warrant was issued against him and his aide. He had been earlier shifted to Barwala town in the Hisar district but will now be produced in the joint state Punjab and Haryana High Court. The District Collector (DC) of the Chandigarh administration where Rampal is to be produced later on Monday (November 10), Mohammed Shayin, said that security measures had been beefed up judging how last time about 50, 000 of his supporters had collected in protest. Panaji/ Allahabad/ Patna, Nov 09 (ANI): Supporters of newly elected ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government celebrated their induction with crackers and sweets on Sunday. Modi hosted a high tea at his residence ahead of the swearing-in ceremony which was attended by notable party members. Later in the day, new ministers were sworn-in during the ceremony. Speaking to media persons in Panaji city of Goa on Sunday, a supporter of Parrikar, Milind Fernandis, expressed happiness. Meanwhile, in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh also, people celebrated the swearing-in of their leader, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, as a minister of state in Modi's government.
