Odisha, Jan 24 (ANI): With the commencement of spring, music lovers thronged the century- old famous Rajarani Temple in India's eastern Odisha state as it reverberated with the rhythm of Indian classical music by eminent classicists. Every year the Department of Tourism organises this festival beginning from January 18 to 20 in the grounds of the magnificent Rajarani Temple. The evening started with the Odissi vocal recital programme by an eminent singer. The music lovers present were deeply engrossed in the superb and impeccable elaboration of different Ragas and musical patterns, clear tonal quality and musical renderings. Each presentation was highly applauded by the people present in the festival. The atmosphere inside the temple premises was musical and thrilled the music lovers. The Rajarani Music festival is organised by Odisha Tourism and Development Corporation (OTDC) in association with Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy (OSNA). The objective of organising the festival is to showcase the cultural heritage of Odisha state and attract more tourists. Jan 24, 2014

Sachin Tendulkar supports children cardiac awareness

Mumbai, Jan 22 (ANI): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar supported a noble cause of cardiac awareness in children and donated Rs 10,00,000 to initiate preventive measures across India. A Mumbai-based Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children initiated the awareness drive for the prevention of cardiac diseases in infants and toddlers. Tendulkar said that he was moved by story of a girl who could not take necessary treatment due to lack of funds. In order to raise awareness about cardiac problems in children, a marathon will be held in Mumbai on February 09 from the iconic Siddhivinayak Temple in the city and will end at the hospital location. Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 17 (ANI): Thousands of Hindu devotees thronged the famous Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram city of India's southern Kerala and offered special prayers by lighting more than one hundred thousand earthen lamps also known as "lakshadeepam" to mark the festival of harvest. Lakshadeepam literally translates as one lakh lamps. On this day, the entire temple is lit with oil lamps and in its glittering background Lord Vishnu, Lord Narasimha and Lord Krishna are taken out on Garudavahana in a grand procession. Sree Padmanabha temple, located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, is famous for the historic Murajapam festival observed once in 6 years. The last Lakshadeepam was celebrated in 2008. The ritual still continues as an immensely grand festival and visual magnitude attracting staggering numbers to the doors of this great Temple. This is a tradition that started in AD 1750. The 56- day- long Murajapam festival, that began on 19 November 2013 concluded on Makara Sankranthi day, according to the Malayalam calendar and included chanting of three vedas (Rigveda, Yajurveda and Samaveda).This is for the welfare of the people and land. Mumbai, Jan 16 (ANI): Former Lieutenant General Kuldeep Singh Brar, who led the Operation Bluestar in 1984, dismissed allegations that former Britain Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's Government may have allegedly helped Indira Gandhi plan the attack on Golden Temple, and said that there was no foreign interference or collusion in the raid. Rejecting any possibility of any foreign linkage to the attack, Brar, said that it was an 'unbelievable' allegation. It happens: Birth Anniversary celebrations of Sikh's tenth guru

Patna, Jan 10 (ANI): Devotees from the Sikh community revelled in festive spirit, as thousands thronged Sikh house of worship, gurdwaras, across India on Tuesday to mark the 346th birth anniversary of their tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh. Despite the bone chilling cold, devout Sikhs gathered at Takhat Patna Sahib in Patna city of India's eastern Bihar state to seek blessings from Guru Gobind Singh, where the tenth Sikh Guru was born in 1666. Every year, thousands of Sikh devotees from across the world also throng the most revered site, the Golden Temple, also known as Harminder Sahib in Amritsar city of northern Punjab province. Devout Sikhs were seen taking bath in the holy pond in the temple premises and offered prayers before the holy book. A procession was also taken out which is marked by the carrying of the Holy Scripture 'Guru Granth Sahib' in a decorated chariot.
